Help Galaxy S2 Thinks it's charging

Hello all,

There have been others complaining of this issue but there seems to be no convincing answer, so I hope to get one here.

Model: GT-i9100
Android: 4.0.3
Kernel: XWLPD

My phone is 10 months old. Last month I had an issue where by the phone still thought it was charging after unplugging it from a wall charger.

It seemed to drain the battery quickly. I then couldn't charge the phone, it just started charging, then would reset and then start charging again in a loop.

Did some research and found out it could be the charging pin in the socket. Took my phone to Samsung repair centre, they confirmed this. I paid to have the socket changed. (At least they told me they changed it!)

Now 2 weeks later I seem to be having the same problem. About 1 hour after unplugging my phone it seems to think it's charging again. The green battery icon at the top left flashes and my battery level widget says 'over voltage'.

I took it back to a repair shop and they did something and then gave it back to me and it was fixed. This all happened yesterday. So last night I again plugged my phone in as usual and then the same thing happened again today, about 1 hour after unplugging it the phone suddenly showed it was charging again.

Since I am at work and have no wall charger I borrowed my friends USB cable. As soon as I plugged the cable into the phone socket, and it wasn't plugged in to a PC at the other end, the phone reset itself and went back to being normal.

What could be causing this issue?

I don't know if it is hardware or software. If software I will root and see if that helps. Maybe I should do this as a process of elimination anyway.

What does anyone think I could do to help myself?

I love my phone more than my wife, but now after 10 months it seems to have hit puberty and keeps having it's period.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums martbw97! :)

I take it that you are using a Samsung Galaxy S2 charger and not another type. You certainly seem to have done all the right things by taking it to a Samsung Service Point. It would seem to be a hardware fault, rather than software related, and I can only but suggest that you politely demand that they sort this out.

Not sure if anyone its still having this problem butt this is the second time I've experienced this with a galaxy 2. After reading several post about repairing the usb port i attempted cleaning mine with alcohol and a small pipe cleaner with the batter removed and it worked. I then replaced the charger that i had been using with a new one and the problem did not return. Possible that at some point my charger has been exposed to moisture or maybe just household dust over time. I have 2 small children so the possibilities are limitless. Anyway i notice many of you had repairs and problem returned try replacing the charger (all chargers considering your not sure which one is causing the problem) and hopefully the problem stays fixed. Thanks for reading:o
