Hello all,
There have been others complaining of this issue but there seems to be no convincing answer, so I hope to get one here.
Model: GT-i9100
Android: 4.0.3

My phone is 10 months old. Last month I had an issue where by the phone still thought it was charging after unplugging it from a wall charger.
It seemed to drain the battery quickly. I then couldn't charge the phone, it just started charging, then would reset and then start charging again in a loop.
Did some research and found out it could be the charging pin in the socket. Took my phone to Samsung repair centre, they confirmed this. I paid to have the socket changed. (At least they told me they changed it!)
Now 2 weeks later I seem to be having the same problem. About 1 hour after unplugging my phone it seems to think it's charging again. The green battery icon at the top left flashes and my battery level widget says 'over voltage'.
I took it back to a repair shop and they did something and then gave it back to me and it was fixed. This all happened yesterday. So last night I again plugged my phone in as usual and then the same thing happened again today, about 1 hour after unplugging it the phone suddenly showed it was charging again.
Since I am at work and have no wall charger I borrowed my friends USB cable. As soon as I plugged the cable into the phone socket, and it wasn't plugged in to a PC at the other end, the phone reset itself and went back to being normal.
What could be causing this issue?
I don't know if it is hardware or software. If software I will root and see if that helps. Maybe I should do this as a process of elimination anyway.
What does anyone think I could do to help myself?
I love my phone more than my wife, but now after 10 months it seems to have hit puberty and keeps having it's period.
