Help Galaxy s2 with PDANET w/FOXFI

First time poster with a hoping a not too complicated issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 on Sprint with ICS 4.0.4 and I have been using PdaNet tethered via USB. Would like to be able connect without wired connection via usb. I have downloaded the latest PdaNet which supports connecting via wifi. I am now able to connect via wired USB and when in the hotspot mode on Pdanet I do see the hotspot created on my MAC but not able to connect. I have reloaded Pdanet on the computer and the phone 2x but still no luck. Wondering if I roll back the operating system to Gingerbread if I would have more luck. I am not against rolling back to Gingerbread as i'm not in love with the ICS.

Hi greco :wavey: Welcome to the forums.

If you have the Sprint Galaxy S2 I'm assuming its the Epic 4G Touch? I moved your post to that forum. If I'm wrong let me know. :)

Hopefully someone here may be able to answer your question.

Grecoaudio,

Unfortunately, ICS broke Foxfi for the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. You may be able to get it to work with Gingerbread, I am not sure.

I rooted my SPH-D710 on ICS and use WiFi Tether.

There are several options available to you. You could roll back to Gingerbread, as you have suggested, you could root your phone and remain on ICS, you could upgrade to the leaked Jellybean. You could also install a custom ROM such as Cyanogen Mod.

Whichever you do, make sure you follow directions carefully and get the program specifically designed for your hardware.

Ok I am thinking the safest route on this would be to roll back to Gingerbread first. However and excuse my ignorance but if I do the leaked Jellybean or Cyanogen mod isnt that rooting and if it is what do I gain to accomplish except that I will hopefully be able to do this hotspot function that I am trying to do?

I mean the reality is that yea I want a reliable phone and be able to use its data plan off my laptop in non wifi areas. So if thats all i'm looking for do I even need to think about these other rom options.

No. You can root using the stock ROM, and the only difference will be that you will be able to use a program like the one I use to tether your phone.

You wouldn't want to drastically increase your data usage all at once, though; or Sprint might take exception to it.

Dsone,

I have been tethering via USB connection for a long time now so if I go wifi as long as I am password protected and its only me on the connection things should stay the same and hopefully then I will be able to use my Ipad with my phone. But thats a discussion for another forum.
