Help Galaxy s3 auto rotate not working properly

Hi,

I have bought the galaxy s3 about 2 weeks ago and since day 1 I am having problems with the auto rotation, it just doesn't work the way it should be working, on a flat surface the screen always goes in landscape mode, It's a pain in the ass to get the phone to go in landscape mode while holding it in my hands to watch a youtube video or view pictures, sometimes it goes in landscape mode randomly...

Comparing this to my old phone "Nokia n97" on which auto rotation works flawlessly after 3 years of usage it's just very disappointing..

I think that the sensors are just broken or could it be some software issue? I'm running on ics the international s3...

Hey there , you should try and download 'android sensor box' of 'sensor tester' app from the store . You can check your if accelerometer is properly calibrated or not . I had a similar problem after 2 months of use . Mine can't auto rotate back to portrait mode and sensor test did detect some abnormality in the motion. Currently waiting for JB update and hope its just a software issue and not hardware .

I have used a few different S3 handsets and they are all the same, its like its too sensitive and it doesn't take much for it to tilt, I think they need to increase the angle of the auto tilt and stop it going landscape when laying flat.

This is a screenshot of accelerometer test the ball always seems to go to the bottom right of the screen when holding my phone straight in my hands.

Also when the phone is on a flat surface the ball goes straight the the bottom right, my phone also goes on landscape mode to the right very often, maybe some sensor is broken? I hope it's a software issue, I really don't feel like sending a new phone for reparation after 2 weeks of usage..

Have you tried calibrating the gyroscope in settings and display?

Yes, but it sadly didn't help nothing has changed...

Somebody any other tips?

Question are you using samsung stock launcher or a third party one like go launcher or apex? If your using stock i find it is a lot slower and a big pain. I'd recommend trying the free versions of Apex, it what I use and I have never had a problem. Also calibration isn't under display, go to the bottom of your settings page and it should be under a tab named "motion", just tap the tab and go down to "sensitivity settings" and do calibration from there. Hope this helps if you haven't gotten it yet.
