Hi there

I do hope this is the correct forum to post to...

I have a Galaxy S3, with Cynaogen mod 5 installed.
Last week I dropped it and the screen no longer works. The phone boots and i can connect it to my PC and see it under MTP and all the files are there. The OS is still working because Timely blatss me in the morning with my wake up call!
ADB however does not work - i've tried installing the samsung etc drivers.

I'm now the owner of a Galaxy S7 edge and i'd like to copy all my sms, contacts, messages data to the new phone
What is the best way to do this given that i cant interact with the screen?
cheers

If you could get ADB working I'd advise using a screen mirroring software called Vysor. It's a chrome app that installs an app via ADB and it allows you to control the whole phone on your computer. I used it for my busted Note 3 and it worked fine.

I'm only experienced with working on the S2 for CM5. But I think @Cyberdev can possibly help.

yes i would agreed that Vysor would be a good bet - but like i say - adb doesn't want to play ball

well..its not working :) unless you might have some suggestions -
FWIW i've tried adb from eclipse adt command line- "adb devices" gives no results - although the phone is detected by windows explorer (mtp)

It sounds like you're fortunate enough to get any media off. If anything was backed up with Google or your carrier then it would have restored on your new device or given you the option.

yes and which is why i'm after some advice to get my SMS messages from the sqllite db to the new S7 phone i have
[edit] unless of course there is another way

One question is whether it's just the display that isn't working, or whether the digitizer is also broken?

If the digitizer works then you can buy an MHL adapter (make sure it's compatible with the S3 - the last few years Samsung have been using an 11 pin microUSB connector, which needs a different MHL connector from the standard 5 pin - or an adapter). Then you can display your screen on a PC, and if the digitizer is working you are sorted, you can do whatever you need.

If it isn't it gets trickier: you should be able to drive the screen using a USB keyboard or mouse and an OTG adapter, but as you only have one USB port doing that and viewing the screen at the same time is a problem (though maybe if you can find the right adapter the 11 pin microUSB, which I think is what the S3 has, will support MHL and OTG simultaneously - the 5 pin version does not). If the phone was paired with a bluetooth mouse and BT was enabled you could use that plus MHL to see what you are doing, but pairing/enabling when blind sounds tricky if not.

I'm actually in this position myself right now, trying to get data off a water-damaged phone, so if anyone has any brilliant ideas do say (right now I'm waiting for a 5 pin MHL adapter, since the one I use with my tablet is 11 pin, then will see what I can do swapping between display and keyboard...).
