Galaxy S3 or Wait For October Releases?!?

Have the 3D since launch last year and finally was able to get Sprint retentions to give me a buyout for an upgrade -

Question is, is the S3 really that good or is it more of an impulsebuy (hot phone for right now kinda thing) Ive also read some pretty mixed reviews saying the s3 is vastly underpowered which makes it an average smartphone - ive been following this phone since the S1 - and been holding off for the S3

I have heard through the pipeline the LG Eclipse 4G LTE with a real quad core and 13mp camera which is suppose to be big and the MotoQ Photon slider - also lets not forget the iPhone 5 (although im pro Android)

Honest opinions from those who own the S3 would be great, also ive kinda reinvented my 3d right now with some tweaks and the camera while bad isnt all that bad when you throw in some filters like instagram - also this phone is pretty bulletproof never really had any issues and it runs just about everything i throw at it - but with that being said my beloved Evo is dated and has a crack from a bad fall -

Thanks to all who reply! :)

Just got my phone yesterday. Upgraded from a Droid incredible. This is the best dang phone ever. And the battery lasts a whole day. Perfect size. And the screen is gorgeous and the size I've been looking for.

How's the LTE in your area? If its not that great I'd recommend getting the international version (which can still be used on HSPA+) as its a lot faster and has a much better GPU apparently.

I'm in the exact situation. Still have my Evo 3d and upgrade eligible. Not sure if I should hold out or jump on the S3 wagon myself.

Question, what is the buyout price on the Evo 3d? The sprint site tells me $90, but that seems a bit much. How does it work exactely?

Coming from a 3devo I d say you would be more than happy with tye SIII. I don't care how good the specs are I will never an LG phone apart from the Chocolate.

I'd like to know which reviews considered the S3 as 'vastly underpowered' and an 'average smartphone'... ridiculous!

As of this time, the S3 is the fastest phone on the planet. How could it possibly be called 'average'?

Just look at the 3D gaming if you're concerned about speed.

'Vastly underpowered'

It depends on if you want an upgrade now or in October. The S3 has been getting great reviews. But there will always be something better around the corner. In October, there will be better phones slated for Christmas. In December, there will be better phones slated for spring release. Then you've found out that the Galaxy S4 is due out soon.

So, it's really about what you want in a phone. If the GS3 is that, get it. If not, and you can wait, then wait.

That's the buy-back price that Sprint will pay you for the device if you choose to recycle it through them. It's not the ETF or early upgrade price, which will be higher.

Sprint (the OP's carrier) uses CDMA technology, so the Int'l version is not an option. The only US carrier that would really be able to use the Int'l version is AT&T. T-Mobile USA wouldn't, as they use different frequencies and there would be no 3G capabilities.

Just got SPrint to early upgrade me and now am thinking of pulling the trigger -

I know the S3 will do circles around the 3D but still have the tendency to buy something (impulsebuy) then realize something better comes out - and with Sprint this is a big deal since you have to at least put in 20 mos in contract and they will not budge anymore (but with there LTE deployment causing issues to towers right now you have some wiggle room) but as i have been researching unless the iphone 5 is something that changes the game completely there will be no real S3 competitors until at least next year ;)

I am also wondering what the Evo 3D will bring me in trade in from Sprint with a crack in the screen, RS has given me a quote of like $60 but they told me Sprint is usually higher lately -

These threads always cracks me up :D. people really like this ? i mean how can anyone on earth no if you should wait or get the S3 ? Is the S3 that good ? you better bet it is.

Not long be forum should i get these blue underwear or white one lmao.

Everything changes so fast that when you wait until October you will find out that in December the next super phone will be out. Just do what I do. Get whats hot at the time and sell them a year later(or in my case every 8 months) .

I don't prefer the size of the SG3 and it has a few short comings, but the S3 Snapdragon makes this a wonderful phone to have for a two year stint and beyond. Great battery life and performance that runs at cool temps.

Buy the SGS3! The worst thing that happens is that you sell it in October for about $400 and pay full price for a new device of you're liking...

As others have said...it's a GREAT phone. No regrets AT ALL.

As with PCs, you could wait indefinitely for the next best one. If you wait now for another 2 months, then you will be questioning whether to get the latest and greatest then or wait ANOTHER 2 months for the next great one. Rinse and repeat. Next thing you know, it's a year later and you'll still be waiting for the next best thing.

iOS is getting stale and it's apparent to me that they are falling further and further behind Android when it comes to features and functionality. On the hardware front, iPhones are nice and well built but no question that Android manufacturers are again ahead of Apple's offerings. Even with the rumored specs of the next iPhone, you are still looking at probably a 4" max screen.

Ultimately only you can answer your own question. Apart from what is out today and what is coming down the pipe, list your top 5 must haves and then maybe another 5-10 wants that you desire in a phone and see what meets your criteria the best. Then go with it.

I don't think you would regret the S3 it is a stellar device.

Now a days there is ALWAYS something better just 6 months down the road. So you'll always be second guessing your choices. Only you can decide when/if its time to upgrade. Some must have the latest and greatest, others aren't as concerned. Only you can decide that.

And just like that I got the S3! And lemme tell you it runs circles around my poor Evo 3D!!! The fact that its so lightweight and the screen is so vivid and perfect sized - I mean it literally is the perfect device (trying not to jinx it) but it was worth it!!!

Flipboard i thought was cool on the 3D but native on the S3 is very cool, the S Voice works well too esp for asking to play certain music - the motions i am trying to figure out as we speak, so far so good!

Thanks all, i know there is alot of these threads but hey one more shouldn't hurt :D
