Galaxy s3 screen unresponsive

hello.. looking for some help on my galaxy s3.. dropped the phone and smashed the outer screen (touchscreen still worked ok though) had it fixed at a local shop and it was fine however recently the keyboard has became unresponsive while texting.. letters and sometimes spacebar do not work and have to press it 3 or 4 times for it to work. i have tried everything new keyboard app, deleting history for app, resetting cache, only thing i havent tried is factory reset.. does anyone have any information that could help with my problem? thank you
