Help Galaxy S3 Tablet Wifi from computer

Big Trav

Lurker
Is it possible to use my home desktop computer to be able to get wifi for my tablet while at home and just for me? It's becomeing a hassle from going site to site and not finding any answers.

If you mean a connection that no one else could use, that would be an Ethernet connection from the desktop to the tablet, which would require an OTG cable, a tablet cabable of OTG, an Ethernet USB adapter that will work with OTG and, most difficult, a program [the good ones are quite expensive] on your desktop creating an Ethernet tether. (And the desktop would have to be connected to the internet by wifi, which would defeat the "only for me" part, or you'd need another Ethernet card in the desktop.)

Or you could set up Internet Connection Sharing (on the desktop's "desktop", press F1 - for help - then type in internet connection sharing). Set it up so the shared connection is wifi. (You'd have to have a wifi adapter in the desktop.) Again, it's not "just for you" - anyone who knows the password you set could use it.

IOW, there are many complicated, expensive ways to do something like what you want, or even exactly what you want, but I don't mean $100 expensive, I mean hundreds of dollars expensive. Ethernet tethering programs (Ethernet to Ethernet) for Windows are written for companies that don't have real administration (those that do just throw a Linux box into the mix and do it themselves), so they're commercially-priced programs. (And many of them require a yearly payment that would buy a nice gaming computer.)

Just using wifi for the tablet would make the most sense in almost every case. And certainly be the cheapest option. Even if you had to buy a wireless router, you can get good ones for under $100.

Wouldn't be wifi if it's wired bud. Answer was in the second post really, Internet Connection sharing if you have the means.
