Help Galaxy S3 temperamental charging???

Is this a general Samsung problem? I ask this because my work colleague has a Samsung Note and she too has issues charging it.

I am having problems with my usb connection now. My toddler has manhandled the phone while charging and now the plug wiggles and can lose contact if moved. It's this fixable? Should I do a warranty exchange?
