Galaxy S3 to LG G3

I have a feeling there might be a lot of people coming over from the S3 to this phone. So I thought maybe a new thread was in order for us to discuss the changes so weren't hi jacking some one Else's thread.

I still have unlimited data on my S3 line. I am presuming a lot of you do as well since those of us who per-ordered were grandfathered in.

I should have my phone tomorrow so hopefully changing the lines around goes with out a hitch. For those of you interested I will make a post with how I did it if it works like I think it should.

I believe I'm going to really like this device coming from my current S3. Mine (3/32 VZW) arrives FedEx sometime today, and having played with one twice at Best Buy, am looking forward to getting it set up the way I want it.

Hopefully the reception is as good as or better than my S3, I expect the battery to be noticeably better, and there are numerous useful features for me built into the device. The screen size and overall dimensions, which aren't much bigger than my S3 are perfect for me.

I currently am on my S3 and seem YouTube videos on this LG g3 device and want it. My current plan upgrade is in 3 weeks so come back after a few days and report how u like the phone etc. For me it's between this phone and a HTC one m8.

I preordered mine last week.

I am on the Alliance ROM (4.3 TW) on my GS3.

Was hoping to get the notice to pick it up from Best Buy today. I guess they run behind sometimes, but I had Best Buy reward $ to spend to get it so, wait I will.

I upgraded my son's line to activate on his line first to keep my unlimited. Anyone with experience with this?

I preordered my GS3, as it was the latest phone before they did away with the unlimited plans.

I had gotten my wife's G2 from the mistake Amazon sale (they listed an off contract price as $199 and honored the order) a while back and satisfied her ability to keep unlimited. The G2 experience made me decide to go to the G3. I have not had an LG phone since my Voyager.

Depends on how much you want to spend :) If you can afford $299 wait for the Note 4.. I would as well.. but I can't afford it and $99 is a good price

When I made this thread I did not think anyone would right back. I got my phone about an hour ago and just got it activated with my old sim card. The biggest issue I had was getting the pre installed sim card out! According to my account I still have my unlimited data and the line I did the upgrade on still has no data, so everything looks to be good!

Biggest issue I have with the phone already is that when google synced up my contacts I have like 3 listing for the same person and its all email addresses no phone numbers, Just did a factory reset on the phone and working on cleaning out my google box. I have contacts from girls I met 15 years ago in my phone that I don't even know who they are now. Trying to clean them all out.

For those who have the phone already, how well can you see the screen in sun light compared to the GS3?

I think I'm going to do it. Figured I'd try to hold out with my S3 until the next batch of phones, but who knows when that will be. I'm tired of the S3 and ready to upgrade.

The screen is much improved in sunlight use over the galaxy s3. I could barely make out what was on the screen on the gs3 and was able to play clash of clans mid-day outside in bright sunlight. It wasn't great but I could definitely see what I was doing.

I'm also coming from the S3 and probably getting the G3 (deciding between that and the S5, which is what I originally thought I was going to get, but I just can't shake the G3 now!) It just came out today for Verizon so I'm hoping to check it out at the store this weekend.
In regard to screen brightness, someone just posted a comparison photo in xda and the G3 was brighter than the S3 at full brightness. That would be good enough for me.

One reason I am not getting the S5 is because the U.S. version only comes in 16GB. I have a 32GB S3. There is no way I am going to get a phone with less memory. Do you have a link to the XDA post comparing the brightness?

I just played with brightness and I turned the auto brightness off and so far I dont have an issue. Does anyone have link for the Verizon usb drivers? I cant get the RSA window to prompt, read something that its the drivers.

+1. Samsung lost a sale to me by not putting out a 32GB S5. I'm not going backwards from a 32GB S3 to a 16GB S5.

Im in the uk so honestly not too fussed about sunlight lol (when its that bright as to be an issue ,everyone round here is likely ti be pretty much worshipping the sun not looking at their phone. What I am concerned about is how battery life compares?

ha a gs3 mate had gs4 used it a few times, i got a g2 loved it for ever. it was less laggy and the battery lasted longer it ran games and apps very well. two disappointments, the camera low light shits sucked. cant use sd card.

then i got the g3 because i loved the g2 so much.
id defo say its way better than gs3 and 4 cant say anything on gs5

I'll be looking to upgrade my S3 to a G3 this weekend. Does anyone know if I can import contacts to the G3 using the vCard file (*.vcf) spit out from the S3's export to SD function? I prefer not to sync my contacts with Google.

GoSMS is a good app for backing up importing/exporting contacts. I use that.

S4 is a battery drainer for sure compared to the S5. Especially in weak signal areas. I wish the S5 had a 32GB option. I stuck with my 32GB S4, but hoping we see some Qhd devices with the 805 this fall. I was close to getting the G3, but am a minority due to not liking the display compared to my S4 and the resource burden of Qhd.

That said, if I had to choose between the S5 and G3, I would pick the G3 due to more storage. The display is not enough of an issue to not favor more app storage.

So Far my SG3 has stronger reception than my LG G3. Where I get 4 bars with my galaxy I am getting 2 with G3. I guess something different with the radio, and I don't notice a difference between xlte and lte. Has anyone done speed test comparing the 2 phones?

Hmmm see here in the uk only 16gb modeks of both seem to be available so storage isnt an issue plus thankfully it has SD card support. I jusr went inti carphonewarehouse near where I live (owned by best buy for usa people but specialises in selling mobiles.) Hoping they'd have an s5 and g3 around and useable like they sometimes do but they didnt so it wasnt too much use. Als o the s5's water resistance and dust resistance is a pretty big point of contention for me I cant believe lg neglected this :/
