Help Galaxy s3 wifi problems

Lurker
Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing some strange problems with my s3. When I'm connected to Wifi and i try to make a skype/viber/tango call the wifi just drops and reconnect. The funny thing is that this only happens at home, when i'm at school or someones house connected to wifi i have no problems withj it. I tried the following approach to solve the problem

1.reset my router ( didnt work)
2. assign static ip addres (didnt work)
3. turn wifi power saving mode off in *#0011# didnt work

So afterwards i really thought the problem was with my router, but today a friend came to my house with an S3 and i did a test call from his phone to mine, and only my phone is dropping the call. His phone is not experiencing any kinds of problems

Do anyboda has an idea what could be the problem?? this is really driving me crazy... thanks

Hi

Changing the "IP Settings" and choosing "Static" Instead Of DHCP. normally works for most people. I'm also having/had a similar issue with my S3 & Note 2 and after swapping my note 2 for a new one it still didn't fix the Problem with the Wi-Fi. The S3 and note 2 are quite picky when it comes to connecting to routers.

First off welcome :)

Have you tried re-installing the app? Or updating it

, its not only one app..it happens with skype, or tango or any other voice and video streaming application..probably it disconnects more times a day but im not aware of it..i only noticed it when using those apps

This may or may not help. I do in-home computer service and set up home WiFi networks often. Before I leave I make sure all devices can access the WiFi network. Very often there is one device that has problems, be it an iPhone, Android, wireless printer, etc. I have found in most cases a simple router tweak will solve this, and that is by changing the channel that the router is broadcasting on in the router settings. I really can't explain it, but sometimes a device will just not work correctly on a certain channel where all other devices are working fine.

Just choose a different channel then the router is currently using, (5, 9, 11, etc)

This will not affect the network security key or anything like that and the devices that are currently working will just switch to that channel the next time they connect. The worst that can happen is you may have to try a few channels before every device is connecting, but this is rare.

I hope this helps!

I have a similar problem that may or may not be related. When I'm playing an online game (appeak poker), and then take a phone call, when I return to the game the wifi won't reconnect. The wifi icon is lit up and flashing, but no data is flowing. Data remains broken (even in other apps) until I turn wifi off and back on again.
