Galaxy S3 with unlocked bootloader

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III developer edition: $599 for unlocked bootloader » Unwired View

It should first be noted that this device comes from Samsung and not through Verizon.

I can just see Verizon's spin on this though. "Upgrade to the only Galaxy S III with an encrypted bootloader in the world."

I tried to get the S3 on an early upgrade to keep my unlimited data but it wouldn't go through. Now, in retrospect, I'm glad it didn't. My new Nexus may not be cutting edge spec wise but at least I can still modify it how I want.

Really though, I can't believe VZW had enough influence to get Samsung to lock the bootloader for them. VZW blew off the SII and claimed it was because they were getting the Galaxy Nexus. They passed on a massively popular device. Now they continue to basically spit in the face of independent developers. Google really needs to tell Verizon what Android is all about.

I can understand the argument that VZW wanted the phone locked to simplify any customer troubles that come with modifying the device but that's why there has always been a disclaimer tagged with a custom ROM on these forums. If you want to fiddle around with Android, you had better at least be able to handle the situation if it goes wrong. Verizon is just throwing gas onto the fire that is the tired argument of fragmentation.

UrsusVIIILXXXVII is correct, the phone is only available thru the SamSung online store.

I saw the picture of the GS3 that was Verizon branded and assumed that it was available from them. :o
