Root Galaxy s3 won't root

Downloaded the .tar , opened Odin hit PDA phone resets, restarts.But when I went into recovery says cant mount cache/ recovery." " " log, and all that other cant mounts.why does it not root?

Went through this a few weeks ago with t999l. Only way, which is a easy way is to flash Philz Touch recovery tar with Odin. Boot into recovery and use Philz options to install root. Then download SuperSu from play store and update binary. Or you can flash SuperSu update zip in recovery.

Best to leave auto reboot unchecked and disconnect cable and pull battery when you get pass With Odin. Use button combo to boot into recovery.
