Help Galaxy S4 Wakelocks Problem

Hello guys.
Lately, i'm experiencing a huge battery draining on my galaxy s4.
i have 4.4.2, no root and I'm using stock rom.
couple of days ago, i realized that the problem is the wakelocks that prevent my phone to enter to deep sleep, which means my phone awake most of the time.

the wakelocks that draining my battery is l2_hsic & rpm_hsic.
in settings/battery, the android OS is on 33%, screen is 20% and android system is 19% and it changes sometimes.

I dont want to mess with root and rom changing because im a casual user, i dont need this things.

thanks !

Hello and welcome to Android Forums xCuriosity1! :)

Judging from those wakelocks you have a modem, signal or Fast Dormancy problem. First check your signal strength as described, here.

Next, try disabling Fast Dormancy if your network does not use it and see if that helps. Depending on your stock firmware, it is not always possible to turn FD off I'm afraid.

To learn more about Fast Dormancy, see this video by the lovely Erica...

Fast Dormancy -- Save Your Battery from 3G Drainage

For more information on wakelocks think about installing BetterBatteryStats and see post #1 - #3, here which covers a whole host of battery draining wakelocks.

Hi ;)
So I read about l2_hsic in better battery stats link and I watched erica's video but still, I dont know how to fix it. Yesterday before sleep, I charged my phone to 100% and after 8 hours (wifi off and air plane mode on) the battery was 41%.... I tried wipe cache partition, no changes...

Without the extra information regarding your phone's details, as shown in #1.2 and #1.3 of 23 Galaxy S4 models - know yours? plus your signal strength as per Network Signal Info and your wakelock details as per BetterBatteryStats, as mentioned in my previous post, you are working in the dark and it is difficult to comment.

Did you try disabling Fast Dormancy as per the video?

If you are connected to Wi-Fi at home and/or work, try leaving your Wi-Fi set to, "Always", in the Advanced settings for Wi-Fi.

Are there any rogue or incompatible apps that are constantly trying to sync or exchange data on your phone and waking it up?

Wiping the cache partition will not improve the wakelocks.

I am afraid that there are no simple one-size-fits-all answers to these type of wakelocks and a lot of reading and detective work is required to solve them.

Ok, i have Galaxy S4 i9500 and my firmware is I9500XXUFNC2.
When im home, my Wifi signal is pretty solid and i set it on "always" in the advanced settings.
Like i said, the wakelocks that running most of the time is l2_hsic and rpm_hsic and as better battery stats told me, my phone is awake most of the time instead going to deep sleep.
I wrote *#9900# in the dialler but i dont found there fast dormancy option..
I think fast dormancy is supported on my carrier, but i dont know what to do about it... like i said, im pretty new in this topic.

Do you want to see some pictures from my system ? just say what you want to see and i post here as soon as possible.

That is not your full firmware details as requested!

Which network are you on and where are you located?

What is your signal -dBm and ASU in Network Signal Info?

Do you want to see some pictures from my system ?

Not particularly as the wakelock is best done on BBS overnight. You could try doing it over 2 nights. One with everything working, Wi-Fi, data, sync'ing, and the next night with sync, not airplane mode, turned off. This may help determine if there is an app/sync problem causing your wakelock.

Answers to the previous questions would be useful though. ;)

I hope this is the right information:
AP: I9500XXUFNC2
CP: I9500JKUFNC1
CSC: I9500OJKFND1

I'm from Israel, I'm using 3G.
My signal strength is -95/-105 dBm and 8/11 asu.
I will try your tips.

OK. That tells me that you are on the latest Orange/Pelephone firmware for Israel and that you have the correct, unique, JKU modem for Israel. See this post for more detail.

I'm from Israel, I'm using 3G.

The GT-i9500, octa core, International model does not have 4G/LTE built-in so 3G is it.

My signal strength is -95/-105 dBm and 8/11 asu.

-105 dBm and 8 ASU would be a pretty poor signal as described in this thread and if it got any lower you might expect to see disconnections and re-connections happening which would increase those wakelocks.

You should also be looking for any apps or settings that are regularly trying to connect via your network either for location, syinc'ing or updating, (perhaps unsuccessfully), and culprits can be anything from FaceBook, Twitter, Google+, News and Weather app's, email, and the list goes on. Hence my earlier suggestion regarding disabling sync'ing for a night to see if that helps.

Actually, the sync option is always disabled when i'm sleeping... so i don't think this is the problem.
Is there a good and fast way to catch the apps that trying to connect, sync and update most of the time ?
Back to signal strength, what is the normal signal for my region ? should i go to my carrier and ask them for solution ?

BetterBatteryStats or 3G Watchdog

How long is a piece of string question that I cannot answer as I do not live in Israel and do not know your network infrastructure. There is nothing you can really do about the signal that is being broadcast by your service provider, except complain. You can see from the screenshot and details in the link I referred you to, what levels good and bad signals are.

should i go to my carrier and ask them for solution ?

You could try but I doubt they will even know about your wakelocks unless you get a real techy guy type. You could also check about Fast Dormancy at the same time.

Maybe the CPU is preventing my galaxy s4 from deep sleep ? I downloaded CPU spy and I noticed that 250 MHz and 300 MHz bars are much fuller than the others.
It's killing me that my phone was in deep sleep only 15 min and awake 5 hours..

Only to be expected! As per my link in post #2...

see post #1 - #3, here which covers a whole host of battery draining wakelocks.

Under L2_HSIC: in post #3 of the link, it describes in detail how the modem is waking the CPU and is causing the wakelock and the subsequent battery drain.

Did you get this resolved yet?

Hi, I am from India and have the same issue of I2_HSIC and multipdp and rpm_hsic wakelock issue. In each hour each of these adds 2000 to 3000 counts. The phone is 100 awake.
i have S4 i9500 with MIUI7 running on 4.4.4KTU84Q.
Baseband - I9500DDUHOA1
Kernel - 3.4.5-CM-gc2cade1
API - 19
I have read for over 3 nights and found that the wakelocks are related to the radio or the connection of the phone.
But i even if i put the phone on airplane mode and turn off the wifi nothing happens and overnight battery drains from 100 to 20%.
The drain is terrible , around 15-20% per hour with screen off.
Does anyone has any clue on how to solve this?
Should i freshly install new Modem and kernel?
any tip will be very helpful.
