Galaxy Showcase Straight Talk problem

Good Morning everyone,
I am new to the site and have a question. I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Showcase sch950c for straightalk. It is very slow. I have reduced my screens down to 2. Got rid of all unused widgets, make sure nothing is running in task manager and dont have any games installed. I have a few apps like My Tracks, Facebook and Pandora. I have installed Speedtest and only get .26 mpbs every time I test it. I think YouTube requires .50! ALso when im at home running off of my WIFI it only gets .67 mbps. My wife and daughter both have the LG zip for Straightalk and they get around 1 mbps. I have called Straightalk and all they tell me is to clear my memory which I already do with Cache Clear. Is this just a bad design flaw in this phone, or a defective phone ? Also, I notice when Facebook locks up I go to my Tast Manager and it will be in red maxing out the CPU. Thanks for any help at all since I dont know what else to do.

Hi, unfortunately I could not find much about your galaxy showcase phone.

I do know however that the lg zip runs off verizon towers while most of the cdma straight talk phones run off of sprint towers. So depending on where you live your phone may be trying to run on sprint towers and they just dont have coverage.

Im sorry, I forgot to mention that this phone is running off of Verizon towers as well. We all have to have Verizon towered phone due to where we live.

That makes for a pain in the rear to find compatible smart phones, too bad a regular verizon phone wouldnt work.

is the phone rooted or anything? if it is not can you try rooting it and getting rid of the problem apk's?

no its not rooted. What does that mean ? So your saying its not getting a good speed because of an application ? if this helps the operating system is the Gingerbread 2.3.6 even though it came out in December of last year.

When you root it you can delete carrier and other installed things, you can use apps that require root access, anything in the /system folder, but you need to be careful as some things will break android if you remove them.

That being said if there is something carrier related that is running causing the phone to lock up and you remove it you may fix the problem.

Since its not rooted you could try getting a replacement phone as its not working as intended.

I have the samsung galaxy s showcase with straight talk and let me tell you. P1223d the 4uck 0ff. It started off with the first brand new phone. freezes, shuts down, backs itself out of apps and internet, keyboard wont work half the time, and without even touching the phone it will open apps up on its own. I called STRAIGHTTALK pressed 1 for english and get someone in backalackadackastan. the tell me software issues. and the would replace it only if i sent in my phone first wich would leave me without a phone for 1-2 weeks. IN my line of work and being a single parent that cannot happen. I need a phone. finally the send me a refurbished phone. a few days later. the same exact problems occur. they send me yet another refurbished phone. and again a few days later the same exact problems occur. 2 weeks of fighting with them and they will not replace the phone with another model or the same model unless im willing to be without my only means of communication. being a 24-7 oncall fire fighter and EMT i cannot be without my phone. Then come to find out that they pulled this model off the market due to its software issues and replaced it with the LG optimus showtime. When i called straighttalk about this newly found info they refused to speak with me about it. and they refuse to fix the situation, replace my phone, or send me to someone who can fix it. if it wasnt for the fact that straightalk is the only thing i can afford i would drop them in a heart beat. now here i am having to shell out another 200+ dollars to replace a phone. I will make this problem on poor customer service and poor quality phones a national matter. this blog will be posted everywhere i possibly can to get the word out. until the powers that be in the straightalk company fix this issue. I never once asked for an upgrade i just want a phone that works.

I have this phone and it's awful. Just wanted to let others know they are not alone. It freezes 2-3x a day, can randomly reboot 2-3x a day, takes forever to load and unload apps. Even basic functions like phone and text messaging seem to clog this device.

If anyone has experience fixing this phone I'd love to hear it. Is it something a root would solve? Factory reset? I've already deleted any suspected troublemaker apps and haven't seen a difference. No amount of rebooting or cache clearing seems to fix the issue permanently. Please help....
