Root Galaxy/Stock android on behold 2 - It flies!

First of all I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this project... You Guys Are The Greatest

After working all evening last night and then a couple hours this morning...I finally got root and re-flashed my Behold !! Here are a few things I learned along the way. I would be nice if in the top post that you would make sure to point out the you need to type in "ABD shell" in the CMD window, then when you should see the "$" and then you can copy and paste the #Block files. That held me up for quite awhile. Do you need to root the phone first? There are 2 lines of code that are used if you do not already have root? ####### THESE TWO LINES ONLY IF YOU DID NOT PERSISTANT ROOT ALREADY
cat /system/bin/playlogo > /system/bin/playlogo_real
/system/bin/chmod 0755 /system/bin/playlogo_real

I spent most of last night trying to root the phone!!
Using windows 7 64bit I was never able to see the phone via ABD Devices so I switched over to my Netbook running Win 7 32bit
I would be nice if some of the information was moved to the top like the steps to ODIN that was a big comfort because I did the restore the OS via ODIN and that gave me great comfort when I performed the Galaxy flash. Again you guys are a great help on this forum.
 
Alright.. so with the help of mrandroid.. i got galaxy loaded...

now today i just noticed that i do not have a ringer when people call! I set it to make sure there was one on.. but it just doesnt ring!

any ideas?

Hey Death, that's weird... if you're having to many problems just do a factory reset again (you won't need to reflash). The phone defaults to a simple ring sound when you flash galaxy.... switch it but it does work. first time i hear the ringer not working. I should be back on IRC around 4 or 5 EST
 
yeah, ill give it a reset here while im at work.. i wont be home until like...4PST so hopefully i can catch you after that lol

edit: alright.. well i went through and set the ringer to something else and then back to default ringer and it works now.. i think that it showed as it was on.. but really wasnt..so.. works great now :D

Extract both files to the Root of your sdcard

Make sure you have all files from post #1 on the root of your sdcard also

download a terminal emulator from the market

open it and type:
cd /sdcard
sh ginstall.sh

when it's done, go to Settings -> Phone/SD Card Storage -> scroll to the end and hit Factory Reset

when that's done, make sure you do the MMS fix from the first post.

just wanted some clarification...is your script working properly now? i know some members have said they had problems trying to use it. did they do something wrong or is the script not working?

no it's not working... going to need to fix them... 1 script needs to do 1 thing and 2nd script will need to be run manually.... damn phone system sux lol.
 
Been following this thread for a while and think I am ready to give this a shot. First question though is ODIN. Where is a good tutorial on getting this working with the Behold 2? I have seen other tutorials regarding the Moment and such but nothing really referring to the Behold 2 specifically.

Okay let me help you step by step! :-)

1. Open up Odin Multi Download
2. Under Select OPS, choose Behold2_partition.ops
3. Click Boot, Choose T939UVIJ6-BOOTLOADER-CL81521-REV1-ForNewOps.tar.md5
4. Click Phone, Choose T939UVIJ6-PHONE-CL81521-REV1.tar.md5
5. Click PDA, choose T939UVIJ6-PDA-CL81521-REV1.tar.md5
6. Power Off Phone
7. Make sure you have it connected via USB
8. Hold and Press Volume Down, OK, Power (the red end button)
9. Phone will say Download Mode
10. Click Start on Odin Multi Downloader.
11. Wait a couple of minutes
12. Stock Touchwiz phone working again!
13. Re-Do instructions to get Galaxy firmware working! ;-)
 
Everytime I try to download and unzip touchwizkill zip it say file is damaged. Anyone else having this issue?

EDIT:: Got it downloaded and unzipped via my phone.. Wouldn't work on my netbook os win7 32bit... GHETTO... wish I had the acer android netbook... sigh!
 
I have followed this thread (hopefully) - and everything is working, but for the keyboard - I can't sign into G-mail for example. I CAN choose an input method - Android Keyboard - but nothing happens.
Also - i see options for keyboard under locale and text - fooled around with options but nothing happened.
Please help?

NOW IT WORKS - after playing with the unlock button a few times - it FINALLY showed up - why?
 
How long should doing the ODIN process take? It has been going on my phone for 15 minutes and ODIN hasnt passed the following

<1> 2/9 Finished.
<1> arm11boot download..

Is this normal? Is something wrong here?

Mine finished in a little over 6 minutes... Make sure you follow the step by step instructions a few posts up, and if in windows, maybe try running as admin.
 
Wow! This phone is crazy fast now! Only thing i miss is the Samsung camera app really....cant figure out how to assign speed dialing but I am sure i will figure that out eventually. Thanks to all of you that worked on getting this going.
 
Galaxy rom ROCKS! My phone feels lbs lighter!! haha After I got Galaxy to take, I couldn't install Mms.apk via adb, so I did it via AndExplore app. Works awesome... Looking forward to a working camera system that is the same or resembles the Behold one...
 
I always forgot certain steps - so I thought I would list the most common problems I face.

Don't forget DEBUGGING MODE
Don't forget to uncheck mass storage.
Don't forget to FACTORY RESET when doing the MMS fix.
If have any other problem, clear the cache data in the program first.
 
Is it just my phone or do voice commands no longer work? When I hold the green key instead of bringing up voice commands it goes to the dialer and dials the last number dialed. Not a HUGE deal but since there doesnt seem to be any 1 touch dialing either it would be nice.

EDIT: Well I grabbed the VoiceSearch.apk and VoiceDial.apk from the 1.5 HTC image and they work...mostly :) Cant say "Call So and So" or "Dial number" but the other commands work so thats something. Google voice search works as well.
 
sooo, as excited as i was when this news broke about finally getting a working custom ROM on the behold 2, i am giving up on samsung and heading over to motorola. getting the cliq this tuesday.

after going from the g1 to the behold 2, i miss having the full qwerty slide-out. i didn't think it would be a huge deal, but i do miss it.

i played with the cliq again a couple days ago at the store, and will be going and getting it on tuesday when i go back. now i just need to sell my behold 2!! craigslist here i come
 
I am new to android so I have tinkered with some of the program and I can't seem to get it to work well enough to be sure that I would do it right any help would be greatly appreciated.I just don't trust myself enough to do this.I really want to do this to my phone.

After I flashed to the galaxy rom the vibrate function on my phone does not work. Should doing another reset fix this or should I do the whole adb shell thing all over again?

I have the same problem except mine will stop at System ive tried it twice and waited for 20 minutes each time but it doesnt continue after that. Ive attempted to run Odin as an adminstrator but I didnt find any difference. Btw Im running windows 7 and earlier had a compatibility issue with Odin so I troubleshooted it to run as a windows xp. Please help :confused:
