Help Galaxy Tab 10.1 Can't Connect Kies?

So what was happening with my tablet is I would connect to laptop and then it would tell me that tablet wasn't responding. I went to Samsung website and did a live chat. I did a bunch of things they told me to do ie. Reboot. Uninstall kies and reinstall blah blah blah. Then I factory reset my tablet and now it works 100% of the time. I would highly recommend doing so as I now love my tablet more than before

What am I missing by not installing this Kies software? I've had my tablet for about 6 months, but haven't connected it to my PC once.

UNplug device from computer

I THINK i may have figured it out.
Try this: go to your settings then go to "applications"
then "development"
then uncheck "USB debugging" plug in again

hope that helps
then uncheck

I called Samsung and they had me do that to debug my tab and to check (not uncheck) the box and mine worked once and installed the drivers too. I had to reboot and when I logged back into Windows it and Kies wouldn't recognize my tab. I'm running Windows Pro 7 64 bit.

I also tried Kies and got nowhere.
Finally uninstalled it.
Don't really see the need for it. Just d/l the USB drivers from Samsung and you should be able to move files back and forth (works fine for me).
I also use an app called WiFi File Transfer Pro. Transfers files over WIFI, and it's fast.

I finally found out how to connect Kies with Windows 7. You have to reset factory setting on Galaxy Tab 10.1. You must uninstall and reinstall new kies software on pc first.

Yep, I found that out after my last post.
Downloaded and installed Kies again (WinXP), reset my tab, and it connected.
Did the update to ICS, and all went well.
After the update to ICS, I updated the apps included, and reinstalled all of my apps.
I then tried my tab with Kies to see if it would connect again, and it did.
Seems ICS solved that problem.

I had problems after my Galaxy updated to ICS - intermittent WIFI issues, increased power consumption, browser issues (e.g. not playing videos), etc. My plan was to backup the device, do factory reset, then restore the device. First, there were lots of troubles with Kies (crashing with "Object is not set to an instance of an object..." error, not connecting, etc.). Finally I was able to connect to the Galaxy device, but then after restore I found that all my apps and other settings are gone. Samsung support told me that Kies does not actually do a backup, it only saves/restores some of the settings, like music, pictures, contacts..., but everything else gets wiped out. Now I have to spend hours re-downloading applications, not even talking about the lost application data. Hope this info will be helpful to the other unsuspecting Kies users. Does anyone know of a way to do a FULL backup? This behavior seems quite different from how I backup my iPhone, Windows PC, and numerous other devices I dealt with; I cannot believe that Samsung Galaxy is the only device with the lame backup!

It shouldn't take hours to get your apps again. The Google Play store keeps a list of all your previously downloaded apps and you can simply select the ones you want again.

There are two ways. If you root the device, you can use Titanium Backup. Or if you don't want to root, you can use Google Backup from the Settings Menu on your Tab, just enable the feature (by default it is off). It will automatically save and restore all of your app settings, songs, movies, etc. I don't know if it'll save your application data though, you'd have to check into that.

Personally I don't bother with any kind of backup. I've only reset my device a few times to wipe it clean after doing updates. All the apps are kept in the store, and any data I keep like songs and movies, I can just copy back over to the Tab when it's setup. No biggie for me.
YMMV.

Excellent post as always, bf.
I did a reset a few days ago. Restoring everthing to where it was took about 2 hours. My tab is rooted so it takes longer to reset to stock. I could probably do it in 90 minutes if I wanted to work a little faster.
A complete reset for me involves flashing ICS via Odin.
Then several wipes.
Then setting it up as if I just bought it.
Then updating pre-installed apps.
Then installing my apps.
Then flashing the root files.
Then setting up my launcher (Nova Prime).
I take my time when I do the above steps. Actually, I enjoy it.
A tab that isn't rooted can be reset and then restored to the user's preferences pretty quickly.
