Help Galaxy Tab 2 7.0-- When starting up, "SD card Damaged" message

When I turn my Galaxy Tabb 2 7.0 on, I get a little SD Card icon on the status bar up top, and it tells me that the card is damaged; recommends formatting.

I had originally formatted the card using this device, then installed all my music and whatnot onto it from laptop. If I go into Settings and Storage, the machine allows me to mount the SD Card and everything seems to work fine.

Is this a bug? Or is there a setting I must change, or what?

This happens to me as well. I think my issue is that it is a 64GB microSD card. I simply remount the card and all my data is there and fine.

Mine does that. I unmount, take it out and turn off the tablet. Then I put it back in and turn it on. Works for me

Mine occasionally does that too. [32mb]
I just restart my Tab and it is fine.

I'd say it happens 1 out of 10 times. Seems to happen more when there are longer periods of inactivity.

My hopefully rhetorical question is: Is this an acceptable level of quality or performance? I'm having the same problem again with a second unit. This tells me it's an inherent problem. Whether the source is with the OS (Google) or Samsung's hardware, I'm taking this one back and looking elsewhere for an acceptable tablet experience!

Have you tried more than one SD Card?

So, no answer to the question about trying another card. You think it's more likely an inherent issue with the Tab instead of the card?

Apparently, no effort either to reformat the card in your PC and try again.

If it were an inherent problem, more of us would see it, don't you think?

It seems like people have spent more time trying to help you determine the issue with your card, than you have yourself.

Well, the data on the card got corrupted-- I ended up formatting the card again and reinstalling the data.

This morning, got the same message-- SD Card damaged.

For what it is worth, I have used the following method so far with success:

When using Cool Reader (with books on the external SD card), I make sure to exit the program.

Before powering down the tablet, I go into Settings, Storage, and Unmount the external SD card.

If I am consistent in doing this, then I don't get the corruption message when powering up. This suggests to me that the power-down sequence is missing an (to me) important unmount command for external storage.

the same happens to my 32 gb sdcard. that 'damaged sdcard' message from samsung tab is annoying, to say the least. i already tried the suggestions of jwither several times, to no avail. when i used my sdcard in my htc phone, it ran smoothly, when i put it back in my samsung tab, i got the same message again.

Happens to lots of Samsung users. Just google it.

I Switched to Samsung brand SD cards and have gone a few months, so far (fingers crossed).

It really sucks to recreate all my music and photos and Sygic data.

I am not sure if its relevant here but on the Galaxy Ace phone section I had found that Sandisk cards are the least problematic whereas some other brands throw up unexpected issues. I wonder if the same gremlins are active here. BTW my Tab2 has a 16GB card & no problems yet

hi,

i have solved for issue , damaged sd card to my tab

i buy a new sealed sandisk sd card 8gb for my tab., when i inserted it reads., but , since its a sd from factory, i want to use a clean sdcard., so i formated and unmounted.,

next when i try to mount , it says, damaged sd card., i tried different ways formating with a card reader., formatting with a sdcard adapter, i tried different ways,, but there was no luck.

on google searches., i found ,, some wrote to have it to fat16. not a fat32, and some wrote fat only ., i was confused.., but couldnt work out..

finally, i have done a lowlevelformating for the micro sd card..,

with a hddguru low level format tool. complete format done.,
with this., it converts sd card to a raw format, i feel.,

when i try to access, in winxip, after low level format., it shows format to access drive., but, i didnt do that,

i put the raw format sd card , directly to tab., now tab says asking to format this, to access and read.

i say yes., and i found a working solution.

hope this helps people to solve too.
