Hello group,

I have just acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 running Android 4.4.2. My questions are:
1) The tablet automatically updates preinstalled apps that I seldom use, if ever. I have only about 10GB of storage space, and some of these updates are rather big. I have set the tablet to stop searching for updates, but updates still happen, and they are installed automatically. I'd like to see possible updates but decide for myself whether to install them. Is there a way to do this?

2) If I install a micro SD card, will it be possible to move these seldom-used apps off the main drive and onto the SD card for storage? I suppose I could uninstall these apps, but I'd like to hold onto them for possible use in the future.

Thank you

Open the Play Store, select Settings from the app menu, and ensure that Auto-update apps is set to "Do not auto-update apps". Note that you'll still receive automatic updates for Google Play Services and the Play Store itself, as these are essential due to so much being dependant on them.

You'll most likely also have to do something similar within the Samsung Hub (or whatever they're currently calling their own app store) to prevent anything downloaded from there auto-updating.

Finally, in Settings/About.../Software updates (the exact wording may differ) and look for an option to disable automatic updating.

Not as such, no.

In Settings/Apps, if you select an app there may be an option to "move to sd". If so then this will allow a large part of the app's data to be offloaded onto the external card, but the app itself will remain in internal storage.
