Help Galaxy Tab 4 WiFi slower than it should be

Whitmarsh

I have a new router, Asus RT-N56U B1, configured for both 2.4 and 5GHz and set up with a different SSID for each. The nominal max speed for each connection is 300Mbps but the most I have seen, even when standing right next to the router, is 54 on 2.4 and 124 on 5.

Encryption on the router is set at WPA2-Personal and AES for both connections. The channel is set as Auto for both.

First, these speeds seem much too low; can anyone suggest why that might be?

Second, I understand that I should able to combine the connections to get a nominal max of 600Mbps; how do I do that?
