I'm in the habit of renaming my photo's, and include the date in the name. These dates are typically the same as the "modified timestamp". The Gallery app shows the newest photo like "20110930 desc.JPG" first and after that older files like "20110901 desc.JPG". I'm not sure how the Gallery app processes the files, by name or timestamp. But the result is the same... if you start the slideshow... it's like you step into a timemachine... and go back to the past!
