Help Gallery app taking a long time to load

The stock gallery app has about a 6-10 sec delay when I open it up for the pictures to load. Is this a problem for many of you? I'd also like to look into speeding up the response time of all my other apps. Handcent, for example, seems to take a few seconds to load my conversations. But maybe I'm asking for too much, performance-wise.
 
Quick pic is best and was recently updated with a built in video player. Faster, easier, and displays at a better resolution than gallery.

I just got around to finally installing QuickPic on my Optimus, and I am pretty disappointed in the picture quality when viewing my pics. I was comparing the same pics back and forth between Gallery & QuickPic, and there's no doubt that Gallery exhibits a higher quality picture than QuickPic does, at least on my phone. Is there some setting I need to do in QuickPic that increases/sharpens the picture quality? Some of the edges are slightly jagged, where with Gallery they are sharp.
 
Not bad, I really like QuickPic so far, even though I basically just got it. The gallery was just sooo slow.
 
Clear the Gallery cache, and delete the .thumbnails folder inside of the DCIM folder (the phone will auto-recreate it). This always helps when mine gets sluggish.
