Gaming Performance

Wondering if you guys noticed any stuttering in games on the DROID Maxx.

I've noticed stuttering on several games, especially on Ridiculous Fishing. Also on a skee ball game. For comparison, the same games run perfectly smooth on my older Nexus 7 (2012).

I know that the Nexus 7 has a quad core cpu vs the dual core in the Maxx. Does that matter?

However, web browsing and other non-gaming programs are much faster on the Maxx than the Nexus 7.

Both devices are running the latest stock software, Kit Kat. (not rooted)

It's just a little surprising that my older Nexus 7 is the better gaming device. All games run smoothly. Well, except for one game, Asphalt 8: Airborn. The Maxx does better on that game.

It's not too big of a deal, but I do a lot of gaming on the go. Anecdotally speaking, it seems like a quarter of games I've tried stutter on the Maxx.

Did you clear the Data Cache Partition? Fragmentation can slow things down a lot.

You could add an icon for the game to the home screen and then run in Safe Mode. This would disable all the apps you installed without uninstalling them and if the problem disappears it is caused by an app that you added.

Is the same app running without problems under Kit Kat on another device?

Okay, thanks, I'll try that. And yes, the same game is also running under Kit Kat on another device, my Nexus 7.

Hm... now how do I do run an app in safe mode?

Hit power off.
When dialog appears long press on Power off
When dialog appears press OK
It will reboot into Safe Mode

To exit Safe Mode do a normal power off/power on
