Gas Buddy

My husband and I both have the Android LG Optimus V phone. We both have Gas Buddy. On his he can 'search for gas prices near me' and the close gas stations come up. If I do the same thing it says 'unable to find a locatiron. check your GPS settings and try again.'

I've looked at our settings and can't see what is different, but obviously it is somewhere. Can someone help me?

For some reason, the GPS receiver on the Optimus occasionally doesn't work. When that happens, you'll find that stuff like Gas Buddy or Navigation won't work. When I first got my Optimus, I noticed that intermittent problem and so I exchanged the phone. But the replacement phone exhibited the same problem, and the forums are full of complaints about the problem, so I've just learned to live with it. Just power off and restart the phone. That should solve the problem.

I remember reading that somebody made an app that can reset/restart the GPS receiver without restarting the phone, but I can't remember the name of the app. It might have been "GPS Status & Toolbox".

Can you get a GPS fix with other apps, for example Google Maps? (edited to add: the previous post appeared while I was typing and looks like a likely explanation for the problem.)
