I am getting a message pop-up from gaseview. Com suggesting I have a virus and directing me to fix it. I suspect may be from Words with Friends app. How can I stop this?

Obviously don't click on the link - that is more likely to install malware rather than anything else.

If you can work out which app is responsible, uninstalling the app will fix it. Most likely is something you installed within the week or so before this started, though an update or a change in an ad server might also be responsible. You don't say where/in what app this occurs, which might help identify the cause. I'd certainly clear caches of all browsers. Apps installed from third party sources (i.e. other than the Play Store) are more likely to be the cause.

I also sent an e-mail to Zynga. Here is part of their reply. I hope it is not just a canned response.

This is Iris, your personal Word Assistant and I am here to help you with the Ads that you're receiving while playing. I love playing Words With Friends too and I'll be happy to see what I can do to help.

Wordie Clive, getting a pop up with virus message is something that our team is already currently straightening out. I can assure you that this will be fixed soon.

Ah, interesting. I'd have expected a canned response to say nothing, whereas this seems to acknowledge that they have an issue.

Mobile advertising is becoming a minefield, since developers don't choose the ads that are served. But adverts that occur when the app itself is not in use are something that is forbidden in the Play Store, so this is IMO more than just a matter of inappropriate ad content, but an ad technology that should not be present.

I was getting this malware ad (and others before that) regularly on WordsWithFriends classic on my cell phone. I have uninstalled classic and installed current and have had better results so far. Could be just coincidence but could be significant. What version of Words were you running?

Hey all. If you come across this ad again. Can you please capture a screenshot of what the ad looks like potentially before it auto-expands? Thanks!

I started getting this gaseview.com virus warning pop-up on Aug 31. I don't have Words With Friends, but I did first start seeing the pop-up while playing a similar solitaire game, Classic Words. I put my phone in safe mode, and uninstalled that and a few other downloaded apps I didn't recognize. That didn't help, though. Afterwards I still kept getting the gaseview.com every time I used the default internet browser. Once I uninstalled that default browser, the pop-ups stopped. Using Chrome now...so far so good. having tried reinstalling Classic Words, though.
