GB hard key light disable (non-root)

In my search to dim the hard key lights on Gingerbread (watching movies/surfing the web in low light) I stumbled on an application that is able to turn them off for non-root users. Gentle Alarm (trial) is free and the full version will also work.

Once loaded choose "night mode" then press the power button to turn off the screen. Turn the screen back on then jump out of Gentle Alarm and they will stay off. Powering off the screen a second time will re-enable the lights.

I would prefer to dim them but this will work for now.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip.

Mine seem to have spontaneously stopped working completely, even in a very dark room. I guess that's preferable to the searchlights they had become under GB.

Moved it into the tips section there, as the DROID (OG) does not have a stock GB released by Motorola, so this tip is pretty useless there.
