Genealogy app

I am looking for a good (preferably free) genealogy app, as I would like to take my info with me when I travel. Anyone know of one?

Is this the type of app you are looking for? Ancestry

That app is free, but you need to have an Ancestry.com account. Most everything related to said account requires a monthly subscription.

Unfortunately, I don't have an Ancestry subscription, so I was hoping for another app.

I took a look at the website--SOOO many of the user reviews are negative.

I've thought about trying to put it into Excel, but I doubt that it would allow me to see all of the info I need, on one screen. It also would be a very "Mickey Mouse" way of doing it. (i.e.--How could I link ascendants/descendants?)
