Help General email app issues

Hey,
I'm new to having an android phone after having an iPhone for many years. I've gone for the HTC One which I love, but I do miss some of the simple features of the iPhone.
My main annoyance right now is that when I get a new email in my notifications tray, it only tells me that I have new email on which account. Is there anyway that I can get a preview of what the message is so that I can decide whether or not I need to read it right away (like the text messages do). I've had a look through the settings and I can't seem to find anything. I'm using the HTC's mail app.

Any way to re-size email to fit to screen on the stock email? I have adjusted the settings for my gmail account (working fine), but can't seem to get it to work for my hotmail/other account. Don't really want to push emails to gmail if possible...
 
I went back to the stock Mail app for my POP accounts. Mainly because I prefer the "Pretty" Sense apps. :)

Anyway, I have it set to sync every 30 min during peak times and every 2 hours OFF peak time. However, it's not synching at all. The only way I get my POP mail is by opening the app and synching manually. Thoughts?
 
So you say you went back to the stock app, does this mean you used the stock mail app before with your pop accounts? And if so did the sync work as you had it set up?

Just to make sure we are on the same page:

Are you rooted
What carrier

What are your sync settings? Do you have "refresh on open" ticked?
 
Yes, I used it when I first got the phone, but then tried some 3rd party options from the Play store. Yeah, sync worked fine.

Phone is NOT rooted. Running on ATT. Peak Sync=30min, off peak=2hours. Yes, REFRESH ON OPEN is ticked.
 
Make sure you don't have any sync errors in your sync tab in the settings section on the phone.

If you open the mail app, and assuming you have mail on the server, and since you have refresh on open ticked, does the mail download? If not do you get an error message?

Is this happening on wifi and cellular?
 
I have two Gmail accounts that will NOT sync the contacts for some reason. Both boxes are checked in the settings under account settings. Everything else sync's perfect - any help would be appreciated.

Do you have sync errors in the accounts and sync option under phone settings?

How is your Gmail account setup on the computer? Do you use the two step passphrase option on those accounts?

And you have had this phone for a while. Did this just start happening or has it always been happening since day one?
 
Yeah, mail downloads fine once I open the app. I get the problem, on both Wifi and Cell, that it will not download when the phone is in sleep mode, or I am in another app.

Where do I check for sync errors?
 
Under the settings / accounts and sync. If you have any sync errors with any account, not just email, go there and check.

But you shouldn't have any since you get them on refresh of opening the account.

Just double check your sync settings. Since you are getting your mail, it just sounds like your sync times are not setup
 
Sync times are set. I reset them too. Still not synching when in sleep. Too bad I can't uninstall and then reinstall. I'll contact HTC.

Have you tried deleting the accounts and uninstalling the 3rd party app and then resetting up your email accounts in the Stock app?
 
yeah there is something on your end that you are overlooking.

if you get mail when you open the account, the settings are there and the account is valid. your data connection is also valid. since you had it working prior to installing/using 3rd party apps, it stands to reason there is something locally on your device that you may be overlooking.

hard to diagnose over the internet but it has to be something simple.. ;)
 
I have recently upgraded to HTC One from HTC Desire HD and I cannot attach a Word document in Gmail even though I have Astro File Manager. I only get an option to attach photo or video but no option for a file. I didn't have this problem with HTC Desire HD. Has anyone else faced this problem? And have you managed to fix it?

Have you tried opening the document itself, hitting the drop down menu, going to "Share" and then finding G-Mail in the list of ways to Share said document?

Yes, I can attach the document if I am creating a new email but not if I am trying to attach the document to a response. It is very frustrating!

Wait, are you using your mail through the Gmail app? That might be the issue.

Can you not access that account through the native E-mail manager that came with the device, rather than the application? I know I have a Microsoft Exchange and a regular Hotmail account that I'm managing with said application, and it gives me the same file sharing options for both accounts.
