Help General Questions???

GENTANI

Lurker
First time droid user, so be patient. I came from a BB bold.

Is there an easy way to get the battery door off? I feel like i'm going to break it?

Is there any other way to send messages other than the send touchscreen button, any of the keyboard keys like OK to send texts?

Any app or button to go through silent mode, vibrate, loud, etc?

Which app is the navigation because none of them work, also there is Google location service, standalone GPS services and VZW location services, and sharing picture location? What's the difference between all of these?

Thanks

Also I've had two dropped calls. Not because of service because its usually very clear but like the phone goes to sleep while Im talkimg and shuts off?

Okay I was holding off on answering because of the fact that I don't have all of the answers you are looking for but since it has been a while and no one has helped I will give you what I got.

For the removal of the battery door the only tip i have is just try and go around the whole thing and find out where it pops up the easiest. I wish I could point you in a better direction but both the phones I have open the easiest in different places one likes to be opened from the top and one from the side.

For the silent, vibrate, I personally use the silent mode OnOff by curve fish it has worked for me for a long time on my OG Droid so I just kept it when I went to the D3.

For navigation I can't help much since I haven't even looked at it on the D3 yet but if it is like the older versions I always end up just using maps and then going to directions from inside it.

Having not used the D3, I'm going to try to help you with my use of the D1.
For Navigation, the Maps app is where you want to be. Simply search for a local, click the "directions" button and it'll give you the option for navigation (the first time, you will need to sign off on using "beta" software). Alternatively, you can long press the search button and it'll bring up a voice activated search function. Say "Navigate to ....." and it should bring it up.
To toggle silent/vibrate/volume button you can use either the volume rocker or the Power Control Widget and assign those tasks for it (again, I'm not sure if Blur has made it different).
For your phone calls dropping, my guess is your proximity sensor is faulty. It's designed to turn off the screen when the phone comes near your face, prohibiting you from hitting any buttons. It's possible the phone isn't going to sleep and you're hitting the end button with your face by mistake. Unless this is a wide spread problem (which I've no idea if it is), I'd say you may have a faulty phone. I'd bring it in to Verizon for this issue.
Good luck, and if you're looking for something as fast as BBM, give Google Talk (app named "Talk") a shot for anyone with a Google account. It's great, and has a nifty visual integration.
