Hello There,

I am new to this forum and wish to purchase new smartphone.

Done googling but now confused....

Operating System -
What is the difference between jelly bean, android jellybean, Gingerbread & Icecream Sandwitch (ICS) ? How someone can figure out better option from available options ?

Screen Type -
Various options like - IPS, touch, internal, TFT, LCD and many more are available in smartphone variants....what should be selection priority; in order to support moderate to high end resolution for normal usage (viz. movie, snaps, game etc.) ?

Screen Resolution -
I come across options like FVGA, WVGA,FWVGA, HD etc...which is the best option to support normal usage ?

Best Regards,
Vishal Desai

Jellybean, Gingerbread & Icecream Sandwich are different versions of Android with Jellybean being the most recent and therefore best. You should generally aim to get a phone with the most recent version, though the older versions generally still work fine.

Screen type and resolution are to some extent a matter of taste and what you want to do with the phone. More expensive screens tend to be more responsive as well as clearer, brighter and often bigger. A 720p or 1080p screen definition will be better for playing HD videos if that's something you need to do.

The best thing would be to go to a store and try out a few phones, see which size, definition and responsiveness you like best.

Welcome to Android Forums!

As SiempreTuna suggested: do not chase specifications or get all bogged down in the technology. Write down a list of what you NEED your device to do, and then what you WANT your device to do.

Go to the store with that list and start eliminating devices that do not match your list and are outside of your budget. What you will end up with are one or two good, affordable phones that will do MOST of what you need a phone to do. Make sure it meets your needs, and as many wants as possible.

And I think you will be happy with it :)

It's great to have you here!
