Geniatech Enjoy TV

have some video?
No mate, and to be honest it would be a waste of time with this setup.
There are two builds of the ubuntu image available. Ambition got the better of me and I went for the larger of the two (3.5GB).
Its pretty unusable (slow).
Even opening a browser takes much, much longer than in base Android. The perf monitor bottom right of the lightweight LXDE desktop (you can't see it on my photo) is constantly at 100% - so its like wading through treacle.
When running it pretty much locks up the resources of the main android session too, so you have to stop proc afterwards or reboot to get things performing better. Given the performance I suspect I am out of physical memory and therefore paging
I need to set the resolution right for the vnc session as its larger than the plasma display so you have to keep dragging the session about with the remote to see everything.
I would have played with it longer yesterday, but the kids were bleating about watching "Fantastic Mr Fox" so I had to return to being a parent again.
I will try again with the smaller image file and more appropriate display settings some time this week and see if I can get it more workable.

read the last 2 pages posts ;)
back to 2.3.4, the release version of ICS will be for march so waiting for it...
Thanks. I didn't fancy looking through 19 pages of posts to find the full story. It seems that its worth waiting for the Prod release, as the Beta has enough problems to make people want to switch back to Gingerbread.

thanks for the review.

OK, cheers. Thought it'd be too good to be true. So I assume people here have approached Geniatech about this - and drawn a blank?

I just asked at the weekend and got this reply, pretty quick so am hopeful.... Guessing its April and not March that people are saying:

Dear *******,

So far, we only have a beta android 4.0 version, you can update it on ATV1000.

The released android 4.0 verison will be finsihed in two months.

Best Regards,

This is great product EnjoyTV box ATV3000. Just one information. How to do Audio output setting? I have all DTS-Dolby files on my hard disc, but then i play with your Android TV Box EnjoyTV box ATV3000, its plays the audio codecs DTS/Dolby, but the output is not Dolby/DTS shown on my Home Theathre receiver. My AV Receiver shows normal Stereo output file. When I play the same file with my existing media player, the receiver correctly shows Dolbly-DTS files. I tried both connect HDMI and optical out, but both gives stereo o/p. Any answer to y queries.. I wonder if the player is the problem here... is there any android player which gives output in dobly-dts?

I am hopeful that whatever is delivered with this Prod release includes support for later versions of flash. I've said it before, but the biggest limiting factor for me with this box is it stops UK based customers accessing BBC I-player.
If this was coming I'd be happy to wait a little longer than April for the upgrade.
BBC I-player and the ITV player would transform this box from something I'd use occasionally, to something i'd use every day.

EDIT - I've asked the question via their tehnical help email addy.

my quick review/presentation of my ATV3000 is available here
(I'm in 2.3.4 I use it on my bedroom tv in 720p but my presentation is on my other HDTV in 1080P)
I had 2 force close in these presentation but for my first time I don't know why ^_^
maybe because my tv try to connect to the ATV with anynet+.... :o/

Yeh best to ask them, at least then they are aware of the problems if they don't already know.....

Sorry but where do you get the app from? Am guessing it will work with android 2.3.5 and not the beta 4.0?

Hi Microcessus,
Great review.
I need to know which webcam you used with Skype and which version of Skype app you have.
This combination seems to work fine ...
Thanks

I'd be interested in knowing this too.

I know others have had success with the Logitech HD webcams.
I tried to get this working over the weekend - to be fair using a micro targus webcam I had to hand, (so not the best webcam - but its worked Ok before). I also upgraded the latest version of Skype from the market.

Not entirely successful on local LAN - Skype'd between office PC (upstairs) running Vista and the Geniatech with the Targus connected.

Video from webcam would not display on Office PC, Audio in from targus mic fine through office speakers, speaking into office mic in resulted in echo through office speakers, although sound OK on TV/Geniatech.

Got similar result last week when skyping between HP Touchpad (at the time runing WebOS) but put this down at the time to a quirk with the WebOS version of Skype. Maybe not.

Just got my box, going to update it to the latest gingerbread build following the two guides and time to start messing about after that :)

About cameras and 3G dongles there is some info in this PDF which deals with Geniatech players.

If a webcam has a VID PID of oc45, 62f1, 046d or 0825 it will work, you can check the webcam on your PC via it's driver properties, the PDF shows where to look.

Hi, thanks,

i'm using the last version of skype (here) and I'm using a microsoft LifeCam Studio (here) in my review it can appear that my skype is a bit laggy but my phone doesn't have a good 3G+ connection inside my home.
I use the same version of skype on my phone.

Is there anything that can play silverlight?
I wanted to use my lovefilm.com account to stream video if I can instead of using the ps3, thanks

edit: Also out of interest has anyone tried hooking up two onto a network? Where one of them has the videos on external hard drives and both can access them?

Mine isnt here yet but I found this on focalgadgets site:-

There are 3 Android emulator Apps on the inlcuded driver CD which are named JYWArcade_all_resolution.apk, JYWMD_all_resolution.apk, JYWNes_all_resolution.apk, please install these 3 Apps on this Android TV box.
Then copy the games on the included CD to SD memory card and insert the memory card to to your player, run the emulator applications, set the game directory to your SD card, then the games will be listed in the emulator application. Please let us know whether you could make it work then.

Get them from here:-

Index of /drivers/ANGC/Emulator

games?

Index of /drivers/ANGC

If you go to the parent directory you will see a link to angc.7z now this may be the angc directory zipped up. But only a guess as its not my site!. Its 2 gig in size though!

Yes - good find on your part.

Got the follow message from the ebay seller last night:
Hi,
Thanks for your email.
1.This joystick works with emulaed games only, it can not work with Android games.
2.Please download the games and emuulator software from the following link:http://yoomon.net/drivers/ANGC.7z
And please feel free to contact us if any other questions.
Best Regards
Jessie
Would have been good if the controller instructions included this little nugget of info, rather than me having to ask for it.
Or maybe it does, but I can't read Mandarin.
