Geocaching on the Desire S

Hey all,

I'm looking to take my first steps in the world of geocaching over the weekend. A few guys in work do it and I thought it might be fun to try. A few friends and I are heading up to Snowdon way and wanted to give it a go there, but had a few questions first.

I have signed up at the official geocaching site (geocaching.com) and have created a profile and was just wondering what I needed to get it set up on my Desire S. I have my Latitude, Locations and Maps applications that came with the phone but does anyone know what app(s) I need to start geocaching? Not very familiar with the process but I assumed you needed a geocaching app that sits on top of the maps/locations app already on the phone and this displays the list of nearby caches and once one is selected, it guides you to it using the compass or something. Does anyone have any preferences over what application to use for this? Or am I completely going down the wrong path with this one.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi i use geobeagle , use the pocket enquires on the geocaching.com web site to down load the caches you want ,up to 1000 , then plug your phone into the pc and move the unzipped gpx file into your phones download folder on the sd card .unplug phone from pc ,go to your geobeagle app and sync caches . It works great :)

Thanks for the replies guys. I have tried downloading GeoBeagle but one thing I'm not sure on. It seems you have to download caches you wish to go and find from the PC and load them from the SD card, but I will be going a fair way from where I live so is there any way I can load them up once I get there?

I won't be near a PC so could do with an app that, once I am connected to the net, can grab nearby caches for me and I can select the one I wish to aim for, rather than download files now and load them when I get there because I don't know where I will be in relation to those until I get there!

Thanks

Also, another point regarding GeoBeagle, it seems it relies on using Pocket Queries to work, but these are only available from the Geocaching site if you're a premium member, which I am not!
