I found that claim surprising when I read your post, but it's true that a partial immunity does develop - Malaria

That said, I would suspect that if they used the malaria excuse, it was simply that.

Slavery's existed for millennia - and outside of Rome where it became an economic institution, what little I know of the subject suggests that it always seems to include demonizing and de-personalizing the victims. The whole tribe-vs-tribe mentality on every continent comes to mind, and from what I've seen, the prejudices continue centuries later, everywhere.

Sad that we as a species haven't risen above that thinking.

I believe part of how indentured servitude gave over to slavery was via trickery.

Instead of a term of years, it was changed to until you paid off the debt you owed for being brought over.

Then, if any of you know how the old "company towns" were. They paid you, but they ran the store, owned your house, and sold you your supplies to do your job.

In the end, you always ended up further in debt to the "company" and could never leave.

The same was true of these "indentured servants". Via creative book keeping, the servants always went deeper and deeper into debt to their master, and eventually they started calling them what they were, slaves.

You know we can debate the whole slave thing for a life time. In the end the statue of George Washington shouldn't have been covered up no more than a statue of Martin Luther King Jr should have. Both men had significant roles in making the country what it is today and both should be treated with the same respect.

It'll have to be more then that, I see white people that claim they are black, white people that claim they are Indians.... People lay claim to their ancestors plight. I mean show me ONE people that has never endured hardship by the hand of another.

Even if everyone looked the same on the outside. People will still have different likes and intrests. As long as we have free will to think on our own. Everyone will never get along. Just look at sport teams. People will literally get in to fist fights and even kill because of a rival team the person likes.
