I've had my HTC One M8 about 10 days and it has been working great until last night.
Last night and today I've been having trouble with the gesture unlock function (Swipe up, left, right, double tap etc). It barely functions now. I read somewhere about exposing a sensor to bright light which I tried and sure enough the gesture unlocking worked. I went back inside the house and nothing again. I put the phone toward a window with the sun blazing in and again it worked.
I thought perhaps the light sensor is faulty. I downloaded a sensor checking app which allows the user to test various sensors and view the reading being transmitted by the phone. All sensors seemed to be functioning.
I thought perhaps there is some dust or dirt on the lens. Cleaned it and the problem continues.
I'm wondering if the gesture app has set it's awake function to some incredible brightness required before it will turn on. If it is an adjustable setting does anyone know how?
The phone unlocks every time no problem using the power button. It just appears to me that the phone doesn't recognize that it is not in a pocket when I'm gesturing and remains with the screen turned off.
Does anyone else have this problem and or know how to fix it.
Edit: After more testing with the sensor testing app, it would appear the phone requires 320 lux or greater to be able to unlock. Outside pointing toward the sun the sensor registered over 10,000. Sitting in my computer room with my window and curtain open it reads about 235. It used to work in my room so what has changed.
Going for a factory reset to see if anything software related might of affected it.
Edit 2: So the phone is working perfectly after the factory reset. Obviously was being affected by an App. I don't think I installed any apps in the past few days so I can't say for sure which app it might of been at the moment.
