Help Getting double notifications on text messages

I use Handcent for my sms. I always go into the native messaging app on each phone and turn off all the stuff in there...like auto retrieve...etc. On my Note 3 I am receiving double messages in Handcent and double notifications. I have double checked the native sms app and have all the regular stuff turned off. Anyone got any suggestions what might be causing this?

I'm seeing the same behavior with Handcent on my new Note 3. I had a Note 2 on Verizon and 'tweaked' it so that the behavior stopped several months back (set Handcent as the default, turned off auto pulls, etc.) but now have a Note 3 on T-Mobile and seeing the behavior where I'm getting double notifications.

I've got poor cell reception where I am, so this is all on Wi-Fi. Not sure if that factors into it, but annoying none the less.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Funny, I just got my Note3 today and I'm using stock 8sms for messaging and I'm getting double notifications as well. Well, i was until I turned off the original messagign app's settings. Now, i get no notifications. It can't be all or nothing.

Well I had my Note 3 for around 4 weeks now and installed Handcent to begin with, I disabled all notifications in the stock message app and I get just the one notification as its supposed to do from Handcent. I'm not sure why this is happening for you guys.
Did you set Handcent as your default message app in the Handcent settings?
