Help Getting rid of Swipe Lock

I have an S3 which has been fine until yesterday. Then, for no apparent reason, it started to show the Swipe Lock screen instead of the Ripple Effect screen.

I cannot get rid of this.

I tried turning off the Swipe Lock altogether, I tried turning off the Ripple Effect option and then turning it on again, but still no change.

I get the Swipe Lock (the standard Android padlock and circle thing) and then the Pattern Lock - instead of the Ripple Effect and then the Pattern Lock.

I have not bee upgraded to JB yet, nothing has changed except a couple of Apps were updated by the GooglePlay thingy. I can't remember which ones they were, but that should not affect something like this should it?

I don't mind if I have to accept only the Pattern Lock screen, although I prefer the Ripple Effect as well. Either way, I don't want the Swipe Lock.

How can I get rid of that please?

I'm a bit confused here. So you want the 'Ripple Effect' and the 'Pattern lock' but you don't want the Swipe Lock?

Other words, when you turn on the screen of your device, it automatically shows up the Pattern Lock?
