Help Getting tethering to work

Iowabucks

Newbie
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my USB tethering working on my Motorola Triumph. I am running CM7, so i'm assuming it should work. And i have tethering turned on.

The computer is running windows XP, so i don't know if that is too old of an operating system or not.

I also plugged in the phone and the laptops OS could not load the android drivers needed. Understandable considering the age of Windows XP. Do i need to have some kind of phone driver installed to get tethering going? And will it just show up as a wireless network or how do you confirm it is working?

Sorry for the noob questions. Just getting ready to take a fishing trip and want to have some internet access in a fairly remote place.

Thanks. Jerry.

Will that driver work with the Triumph?

On a side note, i did get WiFi Hotspot to work. It had a transfer rate of 11 Mbs per sec.

Will tethering give me a higher transfer rate?

You may be able to force that driver. No guarantees it'd work though, although RNDIS is a standard protocol. I think I was able to get usb tethering working in XP on a laptop out of box because I had Activesync installed at one point (had a Windows phone before).

Yes, a 11mbps wifi connection is way more than enough to keep up with virgin mobile's horrendous "3g" speeds

Not sure if that hotfix is enough. Search the internet for rndis drivers for windows xp and give it a shot.

Go to android.com/tether and follow the specific instructions for using Windows XP USB tethering.
This will apply for CM7 also if you're wondering.:)
