Getting very slow hspa+ data speeds since yesterday.

Says my phone has a strong 4g signal, but my data speeds are only 31kbps down, 296kbps up. I live in brooklyn new york. I don't know what's going on. It would usually be around 6mbps+ down, and around 2mbps up.

The internet on this thing is very slow because of it.

I called metropcs and they confirmed that I've used over 2.5gb of data :(. That's why my speeds are lower than even 2g speeds, but what I don't understand, is that people said that once you use up all the 4g, you're suppose to get 3g speeds afterwards and is still suppose to be fast enough. I am getting less than 2g speeds.

Is this going to change in the future?

that stinks. I thought it wasn't supposed to throttle until after 5mbps or even 25mbps I've read.
That's what I mean! I am suppose to be getting enough to do typical web/video surfing. What am I suppose to do with under a half of a mbps for weeks? There's no point of even using data on my phone anymore. I wish they could at least give me 2mbps+. This is ridiculous.

I'm having unusually slow speeds in Philly. And I most certainly did not go over my data limit as I barely use mobile data. Yesterday my gf's cdma metro phone lost all data connection completely. No 4g, no 1x. Tried reboot, airplane mode, updating prl. Eventually we called metro and the rep said it was because she used all of her data. Her phone is on WiFi almost 24-7 AND our billing cycle just started. There's no way she used even 1/4 of her data. Eventually it corrected itself.
You may not have used all of your data even though the rep told you that. I'm having the same issue you are with my L9

Maybe they're upgrading the towers where we live? If so, how long does it take? Also, I don't see how our speeds can be that slow! I mean I am getting under 500kbps, it shouldn't even be that way, even when you use up all your high speed data if that happened to be the case.

yeah I'm not far from the Philly area too (20 minutes away in South Jersey) I haven't noticed anything different particularly but I'm mostly on wifi. I'll keep an eye out.
are any of you on the unlimited data plan? if so when you go into mymetro app under data usage it says something like you have the unlimited data plan. I just ask because it would suck if metropcs does throttle on unlimited data while not having the courtesy to track and display data usage in mymetro app. granted we can check in Android settings, but still. my first month I did just over 5gigs and didn't notice any throttling. at the end of this Cycle I think I'm going to intentionally use as much as possible to see if it throttles. I get mixed reports of when they throttle in comment sections such as the one here T-Mobile, MetroPCS Does Throttle-Free Unlimited 4G Data

I am on the 2.5gb 4g data plan, but it is unlimited overall data, but I believe I am suppose to be getting 3g speeds after the 2.5gb.

I'm on the 2.5gb plan. I hardly ever use my data. I'm on WiFi most of the time

I don't think it's right that my speeds are throttled to less than 500kbps. And, the past few days shows my data signal is poor. I use the app called OpenSignal and it says my data has poor signal/reception, a day or 2 before that, I had a great data signal. Like it just keeps getting worse and worse. I hope it's just work on the towers.

okay, I received a brand new software update (4.1.2) today on my phone and now my speeds are back to normal. Last test I did was 7.3mbps down and 1.6mbps up

So if I update to v10d my data won't be super super slow after throttling?
Actually, I did a test by purposely wasting my data after the update, since the update practically refreshed my data speeds. I drained the 4g to 2.5gb, and after that it started to go super slow again. I think this is BS, since they shouldn't throttle it that slow when the 4G speeds you already get aren't really "4G", especially the L9's limitations of only going 21mbps and not over 40mbps. I think I am done buying these type of phones if games are gonna be played like this. The MetroPCS "unlimited data" that they advertise is practically useless when you can't even open a webpage fast enough.

So if I understand everyone correctly you are saying that if I am on the $60 unlimited plan that I can use up to much data and be throttled?
I upgraded to the L9 And rooted and did experience the throttle when I was on the 40$ plan quick but just want to make sure if I goto the 60 plan that I'm never be throttled with 4g or yes?

Yea. That is what MetroPCS claims. But I don't think anything would stop them from throttling it if they find you're downloading too much too quickly, or if the network in your area has heavy traffic.

I could be wrong but with the 60 dollar unlimited, they'll throttle after 25gigs. I have the 60 plan and I didn't notice any throttling over 5 gigs. But the most I've used in a month was just over 6 gigs so far.

That 25GB throttle on the unlimited plan was the old pre-merger metro, since then I haven't heard any complaints. I think they're now using tmobiles 9765.6GB throttle cap on unlimited plans.

I've noticed faster download speeds via the Ookla Speedtest app, later on in the evening. Earlier in the afternoon, if I'm lucky, I'll see speeds of around 5Mbps down, but at this hour (10:30 PM EST), the download speeds have increased to around 10Mbps.

It's all in the network. During the daytime hours, when more people are using the network, you will see slower download speeds and this is especially true if you're in an urban/city setting - the original poster mentioned Brooklyn, where there would likely be a higher concentration of people using the network vs. being in a suburban or rural area.
