Root gingerbread 2.3 question

hello, I wanted to install cyanogen mod 7, but it says it is for gingerbread, and then i found this: [KERNEL] DamianGTO Ultimate Ginger Kernel so i was wondering if that is the gingerbread 2.3 so i have to flash it the same way i did with froyo 2.2 (using odin and jpy.rar) before i root it.

i would apreciate if someone could help me with this, like with a guide or something.

No no no. Kernels for Samsung gingerbread are incompatible with cm7 based gingerbread. That's why on some kernel threads on xda you will find the word cm7 included in the title.

Go to the cm7 thread on xda. They have all the instructions you will need.
