Gingerbread (2.3) Root

Anyone know if there is an app I can use to root my LG mytouch available yet? So far every post I have seen so far suggests that I would needed to tether my phone to a PC to accomplish this. Seeing that I am definitely not programming savvy when it comes to things like this, so having an app on the phone would help tremendously.
Thanks much.

The two ways to gain root - depending upon phone architecture - is to either use the Android development tools in a straightforward manner - or to use them or ones like them to gain an exploit to open the phone to rooting.

The actual process varies by phone make and model so beware of generic advice on this.

In many cases, there are simplified versions of the rooting process that amount to changing one setting in your phone, hooking it to a PC (Win/Mac/Linux) and then using a single-click method on a file you download.

Here's the guide for the MyTouch 3G - it varies for the other MyTouch models.

But I don't think you'll ever find an app. The process is about gaining admin access, and an app couldn't do that without a severe security problem in Android, and that hasn't existed yet.

Not the answer you were needing, but hope it helps. :)

Yeah, it does, thanks. On a different model running version 2.2 I was able to root my phone with an app called gingerbreak. It ran right on the phone and worked very well. I was able to find a program this time called "Unlock Root." You install it on a PC, plug you're phone into a USB port and the program does the rest. It took about ten minutes to download and install everything (I also had to download the drivers for the phone). It was very easy, and works very well.
