Gingerbread Close....

I'm actually pretty excited. I'm running official nightly 56 for CM7 right now on my D2, but I'd be willing to SBF back to stock in order to take this apparent OTA out for a test drive. Heck! If they then get r00t for it within reason then I'd give the CM gingerbread module a shot since it appears to be stable and provide better battery life akin to Froyo vs GB when talking about stock.

They've recently gained root for the D3, and apparently it's compatible with the soon released D2 OTA.

[ROOT] Droid 3 root instructions (One Click added for Windows/ Linux/ OSX)

I've gone back to 2.3.20 to accept the OTA. My phone is running terrible on stock, but if the OTA is anything like the unofficial GB leak, I'll wait.

Currently for the Droid 2 there is CM7 based both off of the Froyo and Gingerbread "kernels." To use the Froyo one, from official stock simply root and flash CM7. To use the GB based one you'll have to install the leaked and rooted GB that's out there then flash CM7. Both are pretty darn stable and from what I hear the GB one has the save battery improvements that folks that went from stock-Froyo to leaked-GB experienced.

Personally I'm running the Official Nightly #60 on the Froyo side. And honestly I love it. I've been tempted to SBF into the GB-Leak to try CM7GB but for now I might just wait until the GB OTA for the Droid 2 arrives and then root & flash.

If a person is currently running the Gingerbread leak, don't they have to SBF back to Froyo before going to CM7?

Actually depends on which CM7 you're flashing. Revnumbers has releases for both FROYO-D2 and GINGER-D2.

I highly recommend SBF'ing to stock 2.3.2 and wiping data/cache. Installing the official OTA. Rooting that. Then using the newest release of CM7D2 based on GB since it has been updated to accomodate the newest basebands that came with the OTA update.

That's what I'm going to do with Apex, I believe. While Apex isn't as customizable as CM7, the battery life is awesome.

When I try to update my phone it fails, its rooted and stock 2.2. Verizon

Have any good links to the stock 2.3.2 so I can SBF?
