Root Gingerbread downgrade back to Froyo

Newbie
I need to send my Droid x back for replacement. I installed Gingerbread last week but i need to restore it back to 2.3.340 Froyo.
I hear that Gingerbread voids the warranty
I know you can do this i just don't how.
Installing Gingerbread was easy took 5 min to do.
So it should be just as easy
I guess i should mention i'm using a Mac.

i did not root the phone it was a single file that you had you rename to "update.zip" place the file in the root of the sd card, boot into recovery mode, then select the file update.zip, 5 min later i had Gingerbread.
I had read that you can flash back to froyo, i just don't remember where.

Only way you can go back is via SBF. You will need a computer with an XP or linux partition to do so.

also there go to the SBF section. Also you can use a Windows 7 machine as well...i've done it three times on my laptop with no issues.
 
Im kinda in the same boat except that mine was rooted i used z4root to unroot it but i plan on using rooolers guide to sbf back to froyo adn waiting for the ota

If you were simply rooted and didn't delete any bloatware, deodex, or flash any theme's/roms, you should be able to take the OTA no problem, even without SBFing first.
 
I did this on a mac

This is exactly what i did, it took 5 min


" Download the Gingerbread update file here and rename the file to update.zip (if you download the file and the ‘.zip‘ part doesn’t appear, your OS is hiding file extensions. If that is the case, rename the file to update to avoid naming it update.zip.zip)
Place the file in the root of your microSD card. (Inside no folders)
Power down your phone
Power your phone on by holding Home + Power. When you see the triangle appear, pressSearch. You are now in the “Recovery” system
Using the volume keys, navigate to the “install update.zip” option and flash the file.
There you have it. You’re running on Gingerbread, enjoy!"



Now i need to downgrade back to stock Froyo 2.2
i'm sending it in for replacement
i cannot find out how, some say it cannot be done on a Mac,
i have spent 3hrs searching these forums and now i'm more confused than when i started

The only way to downgrade from gingerbread back to FroYo is an SBF. There is no other way.

To do an SBF you must do it from a linux, XP, vista, or windows 7 computer OR a partition running one of these operating systems on your mac.

Some of this will sound repetive here goes


Took me about 10 min and no problems
but it is GB .588 i don't know what to do, a lot of info here but my "ADD" gets in the way a lot so please excuse me if i sound like a fool

OK there is the new one .596, can it be installed over .588?
should i wait and get it when verizon's version comes my way, do i have to install it myself, or does it do it on it's own, do i have a choice, can it be installed over .588?

Now do i need to downgrade back to stock Froyo 2.2.2 before i install the Official GB from verizon, or should i d/l from somewhere else

Now i'm worryed after 3+ hrs and because i did it on a Mac, it can't be done?
I'M having a hard to wrap my head around all the info here but i'm nervious,
what with so much info,

I have also heard that if you have vers .588, non rooted you can install the final OTA on top of GB .588 and i have nothing to worry about, just wait till the OTA hits my phone.



Does this mean i have nothing to worry about, i always over worry

ii want to root it, but i can worry about that later.


And yes i would like to root it, but all the posts and info here can be overwhelminng.

I hope someone can make sense to a person with an ADD problem?

If your not comfortable SBF'ing (is really NOT as bad as it sounds) you can give this a try... one click sbf
 
If you want to SBF your phone on your Mac this is the easiest way possible.

Download the SBF file and the sbf_flash file from the U D G link previously posted save them to an external drive (thumb drive, phone even)
Download ubuntu 10.10 LTS from their website.
Burn .iso onto cd. using disk utility. Insert CD and follow the prompts.
Put CD into Mac and either from 'startup disk' or shutdown/ turn on while holding the 'c' key.
Boot into the CD
once at the linux install screen click 'try ubuntu'
If it stays at that screen just exit out of the window.
Find the files you downloaded and put them on the desktop
Open up a terminal and 'cd' to the desktop
run the following commands.
chmod +x ./sbf_flash
sudo ./sbf_flash name-of-sbf-file-here.sbf
wait 10 minutes and it will be done.
Factory reset to follow from stock recovery and you're G2G.

This is the absolute easiest way to SBF using a mac. All I do is mac and linux on my MBP

Trophy, you got no idea how much Mac help is needed, at least you have an Intel chipset and can run emulators...
I got an old G5 (ugh, Motorola, again..), but it's faster than greased owl poo

To be fair, they haven't even made G5s since early-mid 2006. Can't support every possible iteration of hardware >.<
 
Nope, but it is a very solid build for mac. I think the evil empire from Intel bought out Steve Jobs' soul (or what was left of it). All that did was open up room for hackers and virus developers, since Intel chipsets are easier to break into
