Hey all,
If you don't pay attention to XDA Developers, here's some good (and bad) news for us Impulse 4G owners:
Huawei has released a beta of their 2.3.5 rom!
~Updated~ 【U8800】 2.3 Official Update 【Beta1 V2】 - xda-developers
Now, it's intended ONLY for the u8800 (not us u8800-51 owners), but I took it upon myself to see if it worked or not. After following the instructions in the post, I turned it on and TADA! It had legit Gingerbread on it, with a pretty interface and whatnot.
Stuff that worked:
Calls
Texting
All buttons
Camera
Proximity Sensor
GPS
BUT...there's a problem. Actually...a few. Here's a small list of things that DO NOT WORK with the 2.3.5 update:
Data (2G, 3G, HSPA+)
WiFi
Bluetooth (didn't test)
Accelerometer
I have been trying all sorts of things to make Data work, but I'm just not skilled enough yet. Currently, I've tried downgrading back to 2.2, but there's a bootloop on the AT&T screen. Might end up taking it to the store and saying it started doing that by itself or something.
In conclusion; it's here. Its buggy as hell. And as far as I know, its irreversible. Huawei DID say that they were releasing a better version on Dec. 30th, but which devices that will be for remains to be seen. Until then, if you feel the need to try it, go for it. I'll update this post as soon as I know for sure if I can downgrade back to FroYo.
UPDATE: After hours of trying and modifying, I couldn't get it to downgrade, and the store didn't have any more in stock, so I shelled out the $100 for the Atrix 2. If I can get ahold of one again, I'll go to town on it and see what I can do to mod it.
