Gingerbread incoming?

So what about the people like myself who have unbranded desires, we should get 2.3 before the networks get them

Have I missed something ?
 
well Three first announced the gingerbread update however unbranded models such as mine and Martytarty's should get it first - they always do. but who knows. i am running a custom Gingerbread ROM anyway so it doesn't really affect me anyway..
 
Unbranded desires will always get updates before network branded handsets because theres no network needing to brand - test - release.

However, DEbranded devices may struggle as the last OTA update failed. To get this it MAY be a case of downloading and running the RUU
 
Typical I go to a custom ROM just before the 2.3 update hehe

Hopefully Leedroid will be updated quickly to include 2.3 updates.
 
I won't be believing anything announced today until I see concrete proof - a website showing todays date means nothing ;)

I now the tweet says 'not timescales' and is from mid Feb BUT why it'd only surface again today makes me sceptical

I've often seen the same articles literally word for word, resurface a month or two after the original with a new data on it. happens a lot I think.

ah good catch...;)

saying bout today...I was gonna put a "I hate the desire moving to iphone" rant up april fool...but just couldnt be arsed...plus everyone would know instantly :D;)
 
Seeing a lot of pages on Google that say the Desire HD will be getting 2.3 in April but nothing to say about the normal desire, is it possible that the HD will get updates before the standard desire ?

Very likely, they aren't going to be desperate to update an older phone first.
 
That's a shame but I understand, I have had my desire 11 months now, still a great phone but starting to age a little, looking forward to my upgrade end of year, I shall stick with Android and hope HTC has another super phone by then
 
I'd be surprised if we see this on the 4th. Before Froyo came out, HTC had announced that it was imminent. The latest official statement on Gingerbread said that it would be released some time after the Desire S which I believe meant July or August at the earliest.
 
Desire S is out this month apparently. A chap in the phone shop yesterday said it would be in within the fortnight.

What difference does it make if Desire is updated in April or May/June?
It is only logical that the newer models (IS, DHD, DZ) get the update first.
Desire S is already released and it comes with v2.3.

I have already acknowledged that I understand newer models get updates, It doesnt make a difference what month I get the update but Im sure most of us would want it sooner rather than later.
 
I'm pretty sure by the time UK gets the OTA, HTC will have put a WWE up somewhere, I don't like how Telus disables GSM on their Desire so I prefer the WWE update.
