Help Gingerbread update problems!!

So i am a complete noobie trying to manually update my n1 to 2.3.3 but with no luck.

I have tried downloading the update and copying it to the root of my sd card but when i try to reboot my phone into recovery mode, it completely skips the triangle with the exclamation part and goes into another list of options, none of which offer "applysdcard:update.zip". Instead, i have tried the "flash zip" option but still no success.

I'm not sure whether or not i have the most recent version of froyo, but i get the same results as above when i try to install 2.2.2

Android version: 2.2
Build number: FRF50

i think the reason for this though is because my phone is rooted (bought it off of craigslist that way) and wont allow me to update the phone at all.

Any suggestions?
 
I had no probs manually updating my N1.

The 1st thing that a lot of people do is they rename the download wrong. after you download the file you just need to rename it update yet some people rename it update.zip and the file will be called update.zip.zip so the phone wont find it.

The rest should be easy.. sometimes the phone takes a while to install/reboot itself.. just take a little time.
 
Download the stock + rooted update to your SD card (I'm assuming you want to keep root)

Install ROM Manger from the Market, open it. Tap install ClockworkMod recovery, then reboot into recovery.

Take a backup, wipe (since we don't know what you have), then install zip from SD card.

I got rom manager and followed your steps, but I'm hesitant to go all the way.
When you say wipe, does that mean "wipe data and factory reset"? If i don't do this, then the update fails
I have tons of valuable info on my phone, do i really have to delete everything? any workarounds?
 
Do you have too? Hard to say. Try without, and if you get into a boot loop you know the answer is yes.

Potential work around would be a batch app + data backup with Titanium Backup before wiping so you can restore it afterward.

I pick up a call and the music kicks in (only on my end). How can I fix this? I cannot remove the Music App. :mad:

to the original post-er. i think i read somewhere that the gb download link is only good if you have frg83, that may be the reason why it fails for you

This happens with any update. Wipe both Swype and the installer off your Nexus. Then go to the MySwype web site and send yourself a new email. On your nexus, open the email and click the link provided. Follow the instructions to reinstall.

You have to do this with any update, even if minor.

I only have to delete swype, and as long as I have the latest installer, it works fine to just reinstall swype again.
 
I just installed Gingerbread over OTA on my Nexus One. Now I not only have low disk space on my phone but I can't get gmail (using the gmail app) to get my emails nor does my Google Talk work. Can someone please help? I am going to try erasing some apps but otherwise I could use the advice.:( Thank you!

i tried this twice and it didn't work. have any more ideas?
 
Manually updating your N1 to 2.3 is very easy. But sometimes, things don't go as planned. When that happens you have to be persistent. Let me tell you what happened with me. I have always been able to manually update my phone. I have never received an OTA update of a major release. So when 2.3 was made available for my N1 about a week or so ago I tried to manually update the exact same way I was able to manually update before. But this time I ran into a problem which was frustrating. But then I tried something different and it finally worked. Initially, when I downloaded the actual file, I would move it from the "Download" file on my computer to my desktop, rename it "update," and then cut and paste it to my SD card. Apparently this was the problem. I discovered that moving it to from the "Download" folder to my desktop was not moving the entire file so what I ended up doing was renaming the file to "update" directly inside the "Download" folder and then cutting and pasting it directly to the SD card from the "Download" folder. I bypassed moving the folder to my desktop. This finally worked and have been running 2.3 Gingerbread for about a week now and am really loving it.

So the moral of the story is just be patient and keep trying to figure it out. It's very hard to brick your phone so don't be afraid to try different things until you find what works.

whoa .... why do all this crap when you can simply download the thing directly to your Desktop ???

why do you like to complicate things this much ? jesus... no wonder things don't work
