Help Gingerbread update?

Ok, since the past 2 weeks, I've read much about the leaked version of the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update, but I do not have the balls to update it manually(using ODIN). Then I plugged my phone and Kies told me that I could update my firmware, so I was thinking this might probably be the gingerbread official update. So I went to update my phone, and to my surprise, after the update, I was still on version 2.2.1, even though the update was successful. Any clues as to why this is? BTW, I am from the Philippines. Any help?

Because thats an update of Android Froyo 2.2.1
Not to upgrade version.

Its like Windows XP, it will find updates, but it will only move from SP2 to SP3 and not to Windows Vista.

So there's no way for us to get the gingerbread official update? even in the future?

There is a way, You just have to manually flash your phone to Gingerbread and you will be able to get the updates. Search the forum for help about flashing your phone manually with Odin. It's not difficult trust me.
