Help Gingerbread - will I need to re-root?

draexo

Newbie
I am running 2.2 with my Global. When 2.3 comes (sometime in the next few months) will I need to re-root or will my phone stay rooted?

If I have to re-root, will the same exploits work, or do we not know yet?

So am I better off waiting than updating once it comes, or can Verizon force the update onto me?
I would prefer to wait and see what others say before going to 2.3.
I mean... 2.3 looks nice from what I have seen, but I do not want to loose root.

2.3 will not be coming anytime soon, so don't worry about it for now. Once it does, I am sure that either our current root tools will work or some devs will quickly come up with new ones. As far as blocking the update or not updating, I think you can do it for a while. The last update wouldn't install if you has removed any factory apps, this update might be the same.

Ok. So I need to put back the apps I took off before I can upgrade from Verizon.

So why doesn't someone release a 2.3 ROM like Fission. Sorry I am new and do not understand some things.

Once 2.3 comes out, will it keep my downloaded apps? How does that work?

I am sure the rom developers are working on this, but with the D2's locked bootloader, it makes it harder to do a big update like that.

Your downloaded apps will stay to the best of my knowledge.

It's because of the eFuse inside the bootloader, isn't it?

Dang Motorola!

They are all a bunch of control freaks using the "we are protecting the consumer" line.... sort of sounds like the TSA and Homeland Security.
