Been waiting, but as its my last birthday from my parents as a grown-ass 22 y/o. I'll be asking for droid. I was thinking about getting a samsung netbook instead, but figure I don't need a netbook with a 13.3" m1330, it'd just be going out of my way not to get a droid.

I wanted this to come out, but with NO factual information other than that lots of people have used the name 'passion,' providing lots of google results (and bloggers know putting it in their articles makes more hits), I'm going to get a droid.

Now that its looking to be Q1 at the earliest, worst case I get a 1 year contract droid and have a dated phone for half of it. Oh well. Best case, news comes out january about a big screened keyboard-less phone and I bring mine back. But I think they know lots of people are thinking the same thing, so it will probably be a while. And a few months from now, I'd rather be 3 months in to a year contract than waiting to start a new one.

Hopefully pictures are released and this thread is all tongue-sticking-out emotes by tomorrow. Otherwise, I can last with a bit lesser processor and smaller screen. I want android.

Seriously, this thing is obviously not coming though. But it's alright, Sony and Acer have officially announced the Xperia and Liquid. Honestly, why wouldn't HTC announce their device? I would choose an HTC device instantly over Acer or worse, SONY, but if the Passion actually does exist, they're idiots that just lost a sale to Acer.

I'm going back to my blackberry...A) partially to wait for the passion or whatever better phone comes out B) i don't really enjoy typing on this phone and all I do is text people.

I thought about waiting but decided to just go ahead and get the Eris on a 1 year contract (upgrade available at 10 months). I love it so far. If the passion comes out soon I'll only have 8 months at worst to be able to get it.

Hey, don't worry about picking up a DROID. You're not "settling." I think a lot of people want to knock the DROID in light of an HTC phone, but right now, it's fiction. To comfort you though, if you buy now, Verizon is extending the return policy until January 13/14th? If it isn't out by then, it might not be a real deal.

That being said, as a DROID owner, you can take comfort in two things that I just posted in another thread:

1) The DROID while only being a 3.7" screen, packs more pixels (854x480) vs. (800x480) and is a true 16:9 wide-screen. That's IF the Passion inherits the HD2 hardware... if.

2) The Snapdragon/Imageon GPU got blown out of the water by the OMAP3/SGX GPU in GLBenchmark tests.

It's a good smartphone and you'll enjoy it, especially since you'll be able to use it rather than staring at spy photos of what "might be".

If the Droid has the features you are looking for you are golden getting that device. I have had the total pleasure of using the device several times and it is awesome.

If you want a larger screen, Sense UI, different processor (maybe faster), no qwerty keyboard, etc you should wait until a phone enters the market that delivers what you want.

Having the ability to avoid impulsive purchases is something that seems to be learned later in life. If your parents are willing to buy the droid for you maybe they will just give you the cash and you can wait it out with the rest of us pathetic suckers that believe the passion in on the way.

Not one person will be any less of a dork when we get the HTC Passion. If we wanted to be cool we would get an iPhone and not worry about dropped calls or calling Steve Jobs daddy.

Well stated man.

Personally, if I had to choose between the Droid or Eris, I think I would have to go with the Eris. The biggest difference between them for me (assuming the patch to 2.0/2.1 occurs) is the juice under the hood. Yeah the Eris may be a bit slower, but I hate the idea of a slide out QWERTY keyboard (with a d pad of all things) and prefer the aesthetics and physical features of the Eris. I have yet to be impressed with any Motorola device and I've had many (including the Q9M I currently use). My next phone will be an HTC, one way or another.

While I would love having either a Droid or Eris over my Q at the present time, VZW phones are only going to get better from here on out. The Droid and Eris are currently available and are not going anywhere and, at any time, I can pick up one of these devices and I'm sure I'd be happy with it. however, now is the time to wait and see what else will be announced over the next month before making an impulsive decision. It's the season to be picky and there are so many things hitting the shelves this time of year. Just something to consider...

This actually is comforting, and what I was hoping. Its why I'm getting it, to avoid watching spy-photos, and Droid seems to be great as is, maybe Sense UI (as seen with the cool weather widget on HD2) will be missed, but eh.

+1 My thoughts exactly. I bought my storm on impulse thinking it was gonna be comparable to a iphone in multi-media. Though BB's are great phones for business, I want the latest and greatest multi-media phone gadget as more of a toy. I will not make the same mistake again. This year I will get exactly what I want out of a phone and it still sounds like the passion...I'm keeping my faith!!!

I agree. I actually avoided impulse-buying it that week for this reason, no rush. I have an iPhone, it does what I need it to, and while it'd be nice to have a droid it wouldn't kill me to wait. However, given the choice of getting it free now or paying later, I'll take the shot of getting this now (and worst case returning it if Passion comes out and I prefer it).

The snapdragon I'm sure has +/-. To be honest the only plusses I see in the Passion (for me, of course) are its bigger screen, its lack of (major) moving parts that can break, and its enviable sense UI.

But there is a lot driving me to get either android phone. The bigger screen/resolution for browsing (one of my main uses), the open development (so I don't have to pay 100$ to write something for my phone), the customizability, and - to be honest again - the worst reason: that I don't want to be an iPhone owner. I go to uni in cambridge and pulling out an iPhone on the red line while sitting next to four trendsters playing on theirs makes me wince every time. I swear half of the iPhones sold were to cambridge residents - it seems like 1 out of every 2 people has one. Bleh. But there it is - in my opinion your passion (or droid) will make you cool.

You can't go wrong with either the DROID or the "Passion" (whenever it comes out). And again, no one knows if the Passion will inherit the HD2's 4.3" screen. That's speculation. Based on the leaked spy photos, that screen is smaller than the HD2 screen. Likely is a 3.7" like the DROID. Just whatever you decide, don't let these "Passion" fanboys get to you. Both phones are capable (at least on paper). One is real, one isn't... yet.

yeah im going to give up i think...now the question is, will they let me exchange my droid for another one using the warranty because the slider mechanism is loose?
