Giving Up On Metro For Now

Nope, it's GSM, AT&T. They bought Cricket a few months ago. :D You could get your phone unlocked. On eBay people sell unlock codes. Can range from just a couple dollars to around $20 depending on the phone.

Yes, I just confirmed that Cricket is now GSM, so my LG Motion would not work with them.

I read that they are offering the Moto G for only $99 with a $50 rebate until September 11th. The rebate is only good toward your Cricket phone bill, but that is okay with me.

I was told that after four months of on time paid service, they will unlock the Moto G. It comes locked to their network.

If I purchased their Moto G before September 11th, could I wait until September 22nd to activate it and begin my first month's service? I am paid through September 22nd with Metro and do not want duplicate, overlapping service with both Metro and Cricket.

Thanks,
HB

Yes, because you can take up to 30 days to activate your sim card.

Remember to tell them you are switching from Metro, because there is the $100 credit for new customers coming from Metro & T-Mobile.

Wow! The rep on the chat feature did not mention that! Thank you!!!! : )

The one issue with Cricket is customer service is kind of inconsistent, but the good thing is I rarely need them regarding the service itself.

A lot of the issues are due to AT&T merging Aio (their former prepaid GSM company) with the existing Cricket (independent CDMA provider). They have all the older employees who may or may not still be there, and it's not really finished yet but the service itself is good. But when you have to deal with customer service, it's up in the air whether you'll get anyone who can help.

It's now the new Cricket, and all new customers are put on the GSM AT&T network, as they phase out the older CDMA Cricket over the next year. But that's why customer service is unpredictable and often not too great.

But yes, they definitely have that credit promotion for new customers from Metro & T-Mobile, as well as the referral credit promotion. I don't know if the credits promotions can be stacked (use more than one). But it's truly an excellent offer!

And you can definitely still use a promotion plus buy a phone with the rebate promotion. ;)

I spoke with a manager at one of their stores yesterday. He said the $50 rebate on the Moto G is a gift card that can be used anywhere. However, their Moto G is the 3G version, which is not good.

He said for every number transferred from Metro and T-Mobile, there is a $100 credit to the new account, so if you have five lines in your family, for example, you get $500 credited to your account. Not bad. Still, I think I will wait a while longer. I am at home most of the time, and I rely primarily upon email, so I can wait until Christmas or later to see what else develops. Will close my Metro account this month, though. Should have done it last month, really.

there are actually a few phones on metro that are under $100. the kyocera hydro is $30. it's not great but for what you're doing with your phone it'll definitely meet your needs.

I I am going to miss my smart phone, but I am at home most of the time and have email, so it is not as though I will lose contact with the world.

I just bought a moto g from Republic wireless. Wi-Fi only for data but it is unlimited. Talk and text unlimited. It uses Wi-Fi if you are near one and Sprint if not. It switches seamlessly. $10.00 a mont.

I half thought about the Moto G from them, but decided I didn't want to be tied into a CDMA phone ever again, since having several MetroPCS CDMA phones. I went with the unlocked GSM Moto G.
