those are completely transparent. not what i'm looking for.

That's on my phone -- pretty sure you can Google "Nexus Genie Widget" and grab that version from somewhere, likely from the xda forum.

Sorry noob question. How do I use this APK? I installed, but still shows the original widgets.

the widget in the top post is the news and weather widget on 2.2. I have it natively on my DX.
