Help Global Razr Maxx problems

I activated the phone for GSM thru verizon and went to Germany...no signal. I went to settings and switched to Global mode...no signal. CRAP.

I called Verizon upon my return and was told that I had to update the software on the phone when I arrive in Germany, not before. I said "but the phone has no signal in Germany" she said "use wireless, its cheaper anyway".

Oy.

The phone says it has the most recent software.

So how do I fix this?

im confused... Verizon doesnt use GSM. they use CDMA...

The Verizon rep was telling to use wifi whenever possible there

In Europe, on Android Razor Maxx, with ICS, phones can use GSM to make phone calls.

Except mine.

Which is what I need help with.

the same thing happened to my wife when she took her Razr Maxx to Italy. Turns out Verizon had activated the wrong "feature" on her phone. When they changed it the phone worked perfectly.

Had the same issue a few months ago in Haiti. The feature you want is "Global Services - Pay as You Go". The one the reps will try to add is "International Dialing". All this does is allow you to place international calls while here in the States, which does you no good once you get where you are going.

Unfortunately your phone has to provision on the network for it to work - once you are where you are going it does no good to add the feature because your phone won't be able to do this.

Once I added the feature and went back down there the phone worked fine. You may want to disable data connectivity on the phone because international data is very expensive.

The good news is that it is a free feature (in the sense that there is no charges unless you actually use global services) that you can put onto the account and leave active.
